why is she wasting her time and tax payers money on a 587mw solar plant that costs $9B?

"Ouarzazate Solar Power Station (OSPS), also called Noor Power Station (نور, Arabic for light) is a solar power complex located in the Souss-Massa-Drâa area in Morocco, 10 km from Ouarzazate town, in Ghessat rural council area. The entire Solar Project is planned to produce 580 MW at peak when finished and is being built in three phases and in four parts. Total project expected to cost $9 billion.[2]" -wikipedia

Giant project like this is enough to cause crash in crude oil. When other nations are busy strategiezing for tomorrow some people are busy looting and booming away their tomorrow. With the massive projects on solar power going on in the northern region of nigeria, I will not be surprise if crude will be sold for N5(not $) per barrel.

The power plant is environmentally friendly. Energy and the environment go hand in hand.

The sum is definitely inflated, just the way Elon Musk discovered the cost of space travel was highly inflated to discourage other nations getting into it. If Nigeria decides to concentrate on developing power by this means then the government should support alternative energy researchers with a bias for heliostats but the Nigerian factor will always come in and ruin everything.

I'm for alternative energy sources and diversification of our energy sources but what is there to be gained by visiting a site that is clearly a waste of money at a time when we are cash scrapped? Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System was bult for $2.2B with a capacity of 392MW, isn't that where she should be heading if she is serious about solar?

I remmember during yaradua's time a presidential or ministerial delegation went to Brazil on a fact finding mission on electricity generation......to what end? what became of it?

Large scale solar is a non-starter because of 1) the current cost of solar plants 2) the amount of power generated per dollar of investment 3) the current electricity tarrif regime 4) exonomic downturn. the economic realities of today are such that the govt can neither build such a facility nor subsidize any private firm that decides to undertake such a project.....so why waste our time if not just to look good on the pages oh newspapers?

Lets get serious in this country. If you really want to tackle power you want maximum power generation for money spent...that means things like solar are a non starter so who are they kidding? Who is going to invest in expensive solar power for the priviledge of not getting his investment back because of the low tarrif regime? 1st start with cheaper options like coal, if you want alternative energy? you have hydro and wind power (which can be based offshore).

Lets stop kidding ourselves and giving hope that never materialises. let's actually start making progress instead of trying to give the impresssion of progress.

Gash, see comment, some people are just helplessly, mentally incapacitated, so because she is a minister of environment, she must not visit a power plant. It's your type that will be praying for unmerited favour through out your career because you have demonstrated total lack of merit

Since you're mentally dysfunctional, explaining the reason for the question wouldn't be significant considering the fact that you've shown that your brain is unresponsive. So stop quoting people to insult them if you can't adequately and without insults prove your point. Just swerve and don't get me started with you.
