The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin has
announced an indefinite closure of the school's hostel
facilities to students, as it begins the rehabilitate of the
facilities which have become unsafe for habitation.


In a statement signed by the Registrar of the institution,
Pastor M. Salami, the school has begun talks with
private investors who might be interested in the
renovation under a Public Private Partnership
arrangement.

The statement read: "The Kwara State Polytechnic
Authority wishes to inform returning and prospective
students of the institution, Parents/ Guardians and the
general public that due to the poor conditions of the
hostels, there is an urgent need to carry out a
renovation on them. The present conditions of the
hostels make them unsafe for students to be
accommodated in them any longer without complete
overhaul of the entire facilities.

"Consequently, the Polytechnic Authority has obtained
the approval of the government to put the necessary
machinery in place to carry out the renovation work.
This will commence as soon as arrangement are
concluded with those to do the job through the Public
Private Partnership (PPP).

"In the light of the foregoing, all stakeholders and the
general public are hereby informed that no Polytechnics
Students will be accommodated in the hostels during
2016/2017 academic session.

"The Management wishes to express its apology for the
inconveniences this development might cause all those
affected," concluded the statement.

Whatever happened to phased improvements? You take a few buildings each semester and improve them, not suddenly shut down all of housing. So parents that were budgeting a certain amount for housing for this year now find themselves needing to double or triple their budget. Or will government also subsidize the cost of housing off-campus?

We have such a short term view of things that our solution is always to ban without sufficient forecasting to minimize disruptions. Is it now, when school is to resume in the next few weeks, that they should be announcing this? Or at least 6 months ago. Smh

if not told to vacate... shouldn't their student union demand for that? unfortunately, their student union aluta thunder only surface in election campaigns and political thuggery recruitment exercises. >:

oga that was before, now, their security is way tight. Soldiers everywhere,I think they are upgrading and the renovation of the hostels is due to the stadium they just built. I believe they are about to host some sort of sport soon
