The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the country’s economy under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration cannot be equated with the reckless fiscal policies that were the vogue when the Peoples Democratic Party was in office.

Against the background of the looming economic recession in the country, the Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar, said on Thursday that the way out of the economic lull is for us to expand our economy and make it more competitive.

The governor who spoke to journalists at the APC’s national secretariat in Abuja shortly after being inaugurated to chair the committee of the Ondo state governorship primary, said the present hardship would have been averted if past leaders had started cutting their expenditures to save for the rainy day.

“The problem with the past leaders was they should have started cutting these expenditures from time. For instance, what Obasanjo did with the cement was good. We stopped importation of cement into Nigeria. Why do we have to import rice, why do we have to import maize, why do we have to import wheat? Why do we have to import milk? At the time the going was good the government was supposed to have given credible intervention for us like what Obasanjo did with the cement to encourage the production of rice”, he said.

While reacting to calls by the PDP for President Buhari to resign on account of the worsening economy, APC said the present state affairs could be traced to the reckless policies of the previous administration.

The party assured Nigerians that the President Buhari APC-led administration is solidly committed to resuscitating the economy in the quickest possible time and in the best interest of the people.

Tell them. PDP kept subsidizing dollar to discourage exporters of other commodities who earn in dollars before converting it.
Today there isn't excess dollar to support dollar subsidy and same PDP are trying to use it against those cleaning their mess. I can't wait to see the 2017 budget being funded wholly by PDP returned loot. It will nail the shameless clique.

Defending party! Finding it difficult to move on from campaigning. PDP is outta power over a year now, every problem arising should be owned up on.Sometime i find it difficult to believe we have a finance minister. APC talked about diversifying the economy, if they have been a robust plan and incentive say for oil palm plantation,maize,cassava,rice, and no interest loan many unemployed would have even gone into agriculture, but no! We are looking for oil in zuma rock.

Voodoo or no voodoo whatever PMB is doing is not working.

This administration was built on the rotten foundation laid by the PDP. That is the plain truth. We shall judge the APC when the next election comes, the same way PDP was weighed and judged.

They rejoice when militants destroy pipelines and wonder why the economy is affected. If PDP using the police, army and militants to rig votes, could lose to APC then it goes without saying that the PDP failed Nigerians. We have not forgotten when telecom companies were shutting down masts and media stations suspending operations.

The past administration survived on bribes and voodoo economics, churning out strange statistics depicting growth but living with harsh realities. The veil has been removed now and the rot exposed. This recession is inevitable once the props of corruption are knocked off one at a time.

What have PMB done in real terms to expand the economy and encourage competitiveness? Is it the multiple taxation on the citizens or the bank charges of #65 or the already to be charged SMS and recharge card tax?

For crying out loud we are searching for oil in the arid lands of the north, is that the economic expansion Nigeria needs at a time like this?

Its a pity we are in an economic quagmire with no hope in sight!

subsidize petroleum
subsidize rice.

Forget every other thing.
including road, health care, education, security, corruption.

Rescuing of the country's economy from total collapse is what i believe this present administration should be working drastically on. Different policies has emanated from them though, but no signs of recovery yet.
So, continuous pointing of accusing fingers will not help matters at all.
