The origin of African prints - Indonesia

The origin of the printed fabric and its popularity in Africa date back to the mid-1800s when a Dutch company, now named Vlisco, traded it in West Africa's coastal towns. Since then, the fabric has been a mainstay of African fashion. The generic “wax hollandais” reference originated then.

West African cultures have been weaving textiles for thousands of years.[6] Kente may have developed from a variety of weaving traditions which existed in Ghana since before the 11th century, with excavations in the region showing instruments such as spindles, whorls, and loom weights.

Weaving textile - or selling slaves to Portugues, British, French and Dutch - to acquire clothing. How many slaves did you sell to get Kente and Africa prints.

Very superficial people.

You shipped 12m - in 400yrs - at the time when population of your countries were tiny. That huge amount of human life for clothing

If Brits had not stopped - you slavery which continue in Ghana - would be still sending many for the exchange of textile

Slave trade in West Africa only started in 16 century . But Akans /Ashanti's were weaving and wearing kente cloth way before the white man even touched the shores of West Africa.

Author N'Diaye estimates that 17 million East Africans were sold into slavery: "Most people still have the so-called Transatlantic [slave] trade by Europeans into the New World in mind. But in reality the Arab-Muslim slavery was much greater," N'diaye said

I would be rather worried about this figure17 million Kenyans/ East Africans were shipped to Arab worlds

The Arab desert countries cannot support 17 million now - leave alone then. Tell N'Diaye to find something else to do. Outside Egypt - Arab world was just desert countries teeming with camels - and could not support even a million people.

And what would they go and do in middle east? Arabs had no farms - a few slaves were sold to Arab world.

Otherwise the majority in East Africa ended up farming cloves in Zanzibar and madigscar - and such islands to farm spices.

But is there no evidence of your ancestors creativity like I've shown you with the Bini and Ife bronze works.

that you adopted and call it your culture. That a whole lot of bright tie and dye :0 that is disruptive - but not as equally as South africa.

Dont restrict your fashion to the adopted Asian batik smiley - there is nothing African about the dress your West Africans are crazy about.

You know nothing about Ghana so stop making up stories.

In Ghana, every school (especially Senior High Schools) have not less than 3 different uniforms.

They all have regular Uniforms and uniforms made of Local prints (what you stupidly think it's an Indonesian batik)

The students have
1) Their regular uniforms. (2 or more different uniforms)
2) Friday wear made of Local fabric (Your so called Indonesian batik grin)
3) Executive wear for ceremonies (Mostly suits)
4) Sunday wears (different Local fabric and another uniform for sunday's)

The idea is to
1. promote the wearing of our local prints.
2. to boost production of our local textile factories.
3. to creat more jobs and many more

your country need to learn a thing or two from us when it comes to school uniforms

Presec Boys below
✓Regular uniform
✓Friday wear
✓Executive wear and
✓Sunday wear
