the drought in Kenya is disastrous. Not to be mocked.

This is a drought that's projected to leave about 10% of population hungry.

Don't let these kenyans make u think all is fine over there.

Kenya has dramatic climate difference. Tea is grown in highlands - that lies east and west of the great rift valley that run from Lebanon to MOzambique - and will eventually split Africa into two.

Kenya has areas it will never get drought - because they are on highlands - Mt kenya and even Kilimanjaro - 1st and 2nd tallest mountain with snowcap - areas around there including Nairobi are cold and wet - are example.

Kenya has everything - from deserts - to my home town where it will never become dry - most Kenyans live in sliver of mostly highlands - cold and wet - with few people living in semi-arid as pastoralist - moving with animals.

My home here - receive world highest hailstones ( of a year 360 days - 130 hailstones days have been recorded) - there was a year it rained almost 300 days in a high. Hailstone is kinda like snow - just heavy - and then we get frost most of the early morning - due to temperature dropping and rising

Kenya has deserts

Has some hottest places - some wettest - some coldest - it depend where you're.

Now finally you're talking. If a problem is big. Rule no 1. split it. At least some states will figure out the electricity problem. Not entire country in darkness.

It's unfathomable to have blackout in this century.

Kenya - max blackout per month - I saw is 10 hours - out of 30 days times 24hours. And it mostly linked to rainfall shorting wires.

Something Nigerian states would have began doing from around year 2000 when Tinubu and Obasanjo argued over this then. If Lagos had taken that leap then, other states would have followed and the constitution amended at that time. Anyway, better late than never.

the corrupt system would not have permitted it to succeed. Trust me, there won't be any more electricity problems again as apc still holds on to power and the elected president in charge was also the one who proposed the idea, The World Bank, the Chinese, and the Germans have already expressed great interest.

You speak sense for once.
So cheap it cannot work
Petrol - pumps are dry more often than anywhere in the world.
electricity - same problem - definitely worst in the world

Pay for electricity - power generation companies need money to run the turbines - they get little money - they cannot run the turbines

Cheap is expensive.

Nigeria spend hours looking for petrol - or generators to get electricity. Strange problems in many countries.

Not always the case.

SA in time of apartheid had the world's cheapest electricity, but the quality and reliability was so good,no loadshedding was heard.

But now in the same SA,electrtricity prices are up,the quality is low and its unreliable.

Same thing in tz under magufuli electricity was reliable unlike now where u get loadshedding everyday.

Corruption is the major cause of having expensive electricity. Another reason is how you source your power. Someone who uses hydros and nuclear can get a cheaper power than the one uses diesel or wind

There is almost nothing you produce or manufacture better than Kenya outside of Maize/Beans/Cashew nuts.

1) Sugar - 20 factories versus 5.

2) Tea - Kenya has 200 tea factories plus - Tanzania I think 5 (all owned by a Kenyan). Kenya produces 600K metric tonnes - Tanzania 20K. That is like 30 times smaller.

3) Milk - We produced 5-6 billion litres - processed alone is nearly a billion. Tanzania smiley . 150,000 litres per day processed - LOL that is just small dairy proccesor in Kenya

Milk from Bongo Lalas.
Compared to neighbouring Kenya, where 40% of milk is sold processed and packaged, Tanzania’s formal dairy market is small, with only 5% sold packaged. The country also lags behind in terms of consumption. It averages 50 litres per year per person, compared to 90 litres in Kenya.

Name anything

1. Sugar
Your 20 tiny factories of 10,000mt is a joke. Just one company, Kilombero sugar in TZ is now expanding to produce over 300,000mt making it the biggest sugar factory in the region. Are we in the same page?

2.Tea.
You have tea,we have coffee, sisal, cashews, timber, etc. Are we in the same page kiddo? Don't forget we feed u. Don't compare your agriculture with ours.we are miles ahead. No Tanzanian is starving.no Tanzanian is on the streets crying for unga.

3.You produce milk? I had no idea.
Why can't u sell milk and buy unga so that no protester will roam the streets?
You know, faking data is easy. But you can't cheat people forever. The masses are now awake, today is another day of protest. People are tired of fake data. People don't eat data.People want unga. You have no food period. In another words, people have no money to buy food. Fake data can't put money into their pockets. One moment it's said you have food security more than TZ, in the next day you are starving and eat a cow dung.Whom are u cheating? What for?

under apartheid it serviced around 20%of the population which is rounghly 12%of todays population.

Today it services 94%of population(56.4 m) compared to 9m during apartheid

Bongo lalas; You can never compete with Kenya in almost anything; That is why our GDP is 120B - yours not even 70B. This year we close the year 14.5 trillion. If KES appreciate further - we are soon talking 140B. You'll be stuck at 70B.

Finally you admit load shedding daily in Tanzania smiley

In kenya despite the record 5yr drought we dont know what load shedding is since 1999.

The problem is not corruption - it's under-investment in the sector (old decaying power gen or lines) - over-reliance on one or two plants (South Africa - one plant goes down - it's take lots of power off the grind) - over-reliance of one source (Tanzania hydro - with drought you are knocked out).

The solution is to make power sector attractive for continuous investment - and make people pay for power.

Kenya learn it lesson in 1999 - now average time in a whole month power goes out - is 10hrs. 10hrs the entire month!

Cheap power will not magically encourage manufacturing - Cheap labour is more critical.
