Justice Kayode Adeniyi of a high court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja, has reportedly granted bail to Godsday Orubebe, former Niger Delta minister, and two others to the tune of N50 million. The Nation reports that Orubebe, Oludare Lawrence Alaba, who is an assistant director in the ministry, Ephraim Tewolde Zeri, a director of contracts in Gitto Costruzioni Generali Nigeria Limited, as well as the company, were arraigned on a six-count charge of diversion of public funds.

The charge was marked: CR/265/2016. The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), which is prosecuting them, accused them of diverting about N2.3 billion. The money was reportedly meant for the compensation of property owners supposed to be affected by the dualisation project of section IV of the East-West Road by the federal government. They pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them.

The judge therefore granted Orubebe bail in the sum of N10 million with a surety who must be a responsible Nigerian, resident in Abuja and must show evidence of regular tax payment. Orubebe is renowned for almost scuttling the declaration of the 2015 general election after realising that the exercise would not favour his benefactor, former President Goodluck Jonathan. He accused the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, of partisanship while the results were being collated. He was cautioned by Jega and received a backlash from Nigerians who criticised him for the action. A previous plan to arraign him had stalled after the ICPC released a charge against him. In this new charge, the ICPC alleged that Orubebe was involved in fraud with three others. The trio including Gitto Costruzioni Generali Nigeria Limited, Oludare Alaba and Ephraim Zeri (director of contracts) were alleged to have diverted the fund mapped for the dualization of section IV of the East West Road.

Buhharri is doing everything possible to gain people's trust again.
He's more of a dictator than a converted democrat, and the world knows it.

Last time I checked, none of APC political bigwigs has smelled Kuje bars. Are they telling us that they are all saints?

Fake government with fake leaders.
