setting up a 100 birds capacity depends on the location you are setting it up.... since you said its from the scratch. you have to look at the building of the pen, buying of equipment like drinkers, feeder etc.. Then you look at the buying of the chicks... As a starter it's preferable you buy chicks from 4weeks old so you don't have problem raising them.

COST

PEN
No idea

BUYING OF CHICKS
4 weeks old broiler
400 * 100= 40,000

FEEDING
No idea

I'm my opinion I would just say you should budget 300,000 but trust me you'll get your money back.

if there is land with pen and another source of income you can start very well.

how much will it cost to acquire them and what can be the budget for feeding and medication before weaning
Re: Is 150,000 A Good Capital To Start Up A Pig Farm? by Inspectahdeck(m): 9:29pm On Sep 09, 2016
From my experience, it is impossible

Pen (land and building) very expensive

Feed including water, drugs, attendant and vet doctor etc.

Purchase of pigs: local ( weaner- 3500 to 4000; growers- 6000 to 8000; about to cross- 15000 to 20000) and foreign is very crazy from 20000-60000 for weaners etc.

The secret of Piggery business is volume. For example if you sell a pig (fattening) @ say 22400 @ 320naira per kg with an average of 70kg. Imagine you have 50 pig total is 1120000.

You need more than that. So much to explain tho

How much capital do you think one can start with? Minus the pen
Re: Is 150,000 A Good Capital To Start Up A Pig Farm? by Inspectahdeck(m): 12:02am On Sep 10, 2016
It depends on the volume

Feeds you might need less depending on volume. Per month
Let's say 24k for a tonne of Pkc
Spent grains double tipper 50-60k
Compounded 25-40k

Salary per month
Attendant 10-20k
Vet 5-10k

Drug per month
5-20k might be high depending on epidemic etc.

I gave you the prices of pigs earlier

If you have roughly 500k- 1m. Everything depends on the volume of pigs

like I said earlier buy 2 ingilt it might cost you 40 to 50k each for a good breed, that like 100k for both,i belief 50k will feed them for atleast 6 months,by that time you should have raise another money into the biz, then castrate all the male piglet then use all the females as your new breeder,if u have any female runt don't use it as your breeding stock

Well I gave him an estimate. Like you said he should go for training. I tried to inform him that pig business isn't a joke. You can also help in the estimate.

I don't want he to start struggling because he will get frustrated and quite.

seems you are experienced farmer you have a point bro that y starting small might help him, starting a piggery farm no be joke oooooooo, but I belief with 2 ingilt he should able to cope and do better, most farmers get frustrated because they start with bad breeders or breeds which there offspring don't grow untym which leads to frustration
