Preface

Last week, an Nsukabagger named Ikechu-coon opened a thread asking us what the SW contributes to Nigeria's economy
Imagine! Maaan these people really disrespect us gaan ooo. No be their fault sha. Na because we dey share the same country nah grin

I arrived very late to that thread and I don't like jumping on threads like that. I love details and I like everyone to see what I'm posting
so you can share it for future use. Someone already created a thread showing us the contributions of the SW, I'm just here to add more
and back it up with facts.

Nairaland is a big forum. Whatever people see here is what they swallow and it's upon us as Yorubas to always
set the records straight. We'll also use this thread to bust some age-long myths being spread around by Nsukabaggers

Caveat to you rising Gala-preneurs/nsukabaggers

Please...pleease.....pleeeease I don't want to see any bullshit about people who make use of the ports and blah blah. You can see the title
of my thread
or the talk of Yorubas not wanting you to have Biafra. I've sorted that out on another thread. Go look for it

Thanks

businessdayonline.com/2015/02/ogun-ikeja-top-manufacturers-investment-destinations-in-2014/

Ogun, Ikeja top manufacturers’ investment destinations in 2014

While Ogun, which is now Nigeria’s industrial hub, recorded N377 billion worth of investments within the period, Ikeja returned investments worth N39.86 billion.

Ogun State’s represents 78 percent of N483 billion worth of investments made in the whole of the manufacturing sector within the period under review, while Ikeja shares 8.3 percent.

“This has revealed that the majority of manufacturing investments were directed towards Ogun industrial axis, which consists of Otta, Agbara, Ibafo/Mowe and Shagamu industrial areas,” said MAN, in its latest January to July 2014 economic review.

....

The data further show investments in Kano/Sharada/Challawa as N19.75 billion and those of Oyo/Ondo/Osun/Ekiti as N19.2 billion within the period under review.

Anambra/Enugu that had N5.5 billion worth of investments.
while those of Imo/Abia were estimated at N309 million.

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) in its latest economic review (2015) said the production value recorded by the Ogun Industrial Zone accounted for 69 percent of total production for all zones, thus re-confirming Ogun as the industrial hub of the nation.

According to findings, investors get rebates on land, good road network and better security of plants, machinery and assets in industrial zones in Ogun State. Certain types of taxes paid by these investors in Lagos are also accepted by Ogun State, thus preventing them from paying multiple levies in two states.

Ogun also has a one-stop-shop platform, where investors are given access to understudy available natural and mineral deposits, as well as agricultural potential of the state. Many manufacturers also say there is less harassment from touts in Ogun. Also, there is less traffic gridlock in Ogun and cheaper and more available accommodation for staff in the state.

In the last two to three years, more investments have moved to Agbara, Igbesa, Abeokuta, Sango-Otta, Ibafo, Mowe, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu industrial clusters, all in Ogun State, at the expense of Ikeja and Apapa zones in Lagos which used to be the hubs of investors.

In terms of output, Ogun turned out N265.27 billion in output in half year 2015 as against Lagos’ N88.6 billion. Similarly, Ogun produced goods worth N306.58 billion in the whole of 2014, while Lagos churned out output worth N274.41 billion within the period.

Some of the new investors which berthed Ogun in 2014 were Shongai Technologies Limited, Ijako in Sango-Otta, Apples and Pears Limited, Ceplas Farms Limited, Greenlife Bliss Healthcare Limited, Sumo Steel Limited, among others.

SW Nigeria contributes to the Nigerian project through our international Land Borders in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Kwara. With the Ogun State Zone being the most profitable International Border of Nigeria.
In Totality, The South-West controls the 1st, 3rd and 4th most profitable Land Borders of the country.

Custom Generates N1.2 Billion on Rice in 2 Months through Land Borders (2015)
https://www.customs.gov.ng/Publications/news_results.php?NewsID=242

Nigeria Customs Service has recorded a total revenue of N1,178,720,376 on Rice Imports through the land borders in October and November 2015. During the same period, the total quantity of rice imported through the land borders stood at 17.596 Metric Tonnes.
These figures were disclosed at a strategy session convened by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) to review revenue performance for the year.

3. Two months ago, the Comptroller-General of the Service had approved the removal of the restriction placed on importation of Rice through the land borders. The removal was predicated on the large scale rice smuggling through the land borders, resulting to huge revenue loss and distortions in the price of the item in the local markets.

“ The huge collection in just two months has vindicated our position. If we had stuck to our previous directive, this much quantum of rice would still have been smuggled anyway, and we would have lost over a billion Naira revenue as this critical period of our economic downtown” , the Comptroller-General disclosed during the meeting.

4. The breakdown of the Rice imports shows that Idiroko border in Ogun Command has the largest volume of 8.276 Metric tonnes, with a collection of N555,152,344 duty. Katsina Borders come next in quantity of 3,636 Metric tones imported, where total revenue of N242,985,626 was collected during the same period. A total of 2.156 metric tones was imported through the land borders of Oyo/Osun command, generating a total revenue of N144,278,025.

5. Other Commands include:
Seme - 2,140 Metric Tonnes with N143,349,658
Sokoto – 602 Metric Tonnes with N40,162,759
Kano/Jigawa – 470 Metric Tonnes with N31,536,148
Adamawa/Taraba – 248 Metric Tonnes with N16,545,422
Kwara/Niger – 68 Metric Tonnes with N4,710,394

The land is violated with non Yorubas especially Hausas and fulanis ganging up to lynch people to death, burn down houses and etc. Ijaw militants running things in the creeks and etc while Igbos too stay here and say in public that they do not like the Yorubas! The breakup of Nigeria should be our minimum demand, so that we merge with our people to the West, we delineate into states and give income tax to the center while allowing states to control the police while their army divisions is staffed mainly by them.

As per contribution to the economy of present Nigeria. SW even without Yorubas in Kwara, Niger and Kogi also Delta is number one, followed by NW, then probably SS, NC or SE then NE is last. SW GDP must be over 35 percent of Nigeria's GDP, so if you add all Yoruba in like ten states, it may be 40 percent of Nigeria's economy.

When you talk of the money being mismanaged, as in oil money, a large portion of it comes from Yoruba territorial waters and lands but that is not economy but a hinderance to economy.

All groups have their share of the economy which is a chunk of the whole.

You even have the time of those cowardly and defeated ''Ojukwus''.

They are mere noise makers that achieve things orally and never in reality.

You have successfully showed the world that SE and her people contribute nothing, i repeat nothing to Nigeria. They are economic saboteurs that import sub-standard goods into Nigeria, shipping our employment to China.

The most shocking statistics stated is the number of MSMEs, which is the only area they used to boast of. SW still dust them again and again. There are even more MSMEs in Kano and Rivers than each of the SEastern states. ''Ojukwus'' and lies are one and the same. Wallahi.

They're not even largest contributors to the revenue generated from Lagos ports neither are they the major tax payers in Lagos grin cheesy

The Executive Chairman Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Mr. Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, revealed yesterday that only five million people are tax compliant in the state. This is even as Theophilus Emuwa, a tax expert has estimated that out of the five million in the tax net, 90 percent of the tax payers are from the Organised Private Sector, OPS, and public servants while 10 percent are from informal sector in the state.

Then, they should learn to stop punching above their weight and making noise like empty barrels. Even if they quadruple their population and enlarge their land mass three times the current one, they CAN NEVER contribute 25% of what SW is contributing to Nigeria.

They contribute zilch to the nation.
