The wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, says the four persons who pleaded guilty to money laundering charges on behalf of the four companies linked to her are mercenaries hired by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The ex-President’s wife stated this in a statement on Thursday by her media aide, Chima Osuji.

She alleged that the EFCC presented four unknown persons, who were not authorised by the companies’ boards to plead guilty on behalf of the companies.



She said it was a ploy by the EFCC to ensure that her hard-earn money was confiscated.

The ex-President’s wife argued that the EFCC failed to comply with Section 477 (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, by not presenting to the court on Thursday any letter to show that the four persons were authorised by the companies to represent them.

“This is a clear evidence of the desperation of the prosecution to pull down the former First Lady and confiscate her hard-earned money.

“It is an irony that it was the former First Lady who went to court for the repatriation of her confiscated money when she realised that the EFCC and its co-travellers were playing politics with this issue after she had come out publicly to say that the said money belongs to her and that she has all evidence to prove the sources of her money. Up till this very moment, the EFCC has refused to interrogate or invite her for questioning.

“The biggest twist in court on Thursday was that the fourth to seventh defendants pleaded guilty to all the 15 counts. It is clear that these unknown faces were agents of the EFCC, who have been stage-managed and tutored to come to court to complicate the case as a strategy to confiscate her money,” the ex-President’s wife’s aide, Osuji, said.

This case is becoming very funny. I really wonder who is pushing Mama piss to be dancing nakedly in public. She's not even a party to case in the first place and here she is saying the directors of the companies that are standing trial are mercinaries. If she truly wants to claim the money, she must first come clean before Nigerians on how exactly she earned such a huge amount. We want to know the exact business that earned her over $30milliin and why the money had to be kept in the accounts of companies that are not related to her. Why can't she lodged the money in her own account that bears her name if truly it is her hard earned money?

Nigerians are no fools, we know better. She even lacks the locus standi to interfere or be joined as a party to the case. Again, she's running the risk of being charged for contempt of court by discussing a case that is before a properly constituted court openly and in a manner that can affect the outcome of the case.

EFCC has no single right to prosecute her,they must prosecute the owner of those account and companies,she will probably lose the money and those people will probably go to jail

We have seen from the past how they are always quick to swing into corrupt opposition case but will never attend to APC corrupt cases.

Everybody has forgotten and moved on with Budget padding, Burutai Dubai Massion and so many corruption cases of the people in government been swept under the carpet. The worst of all is when it comes to opposition, you see APC loyalist shouting "our money" and some will even say it's the cause of this recession. But when it comes to people in power looting inspite of the present state of the nation, you will hear them saying they saved from there salary to arquire millions of dollar properties, some will say no evidence against them.

It is high time we condemn corruption irrespective of the party involve not using EFCC and DSS as a tool for revenge and oppression. The accuse is seeking for invite to clarify herself but instead she wasn't even invited but court is already acting on the matter. I have never seen where someone accused of stealing, robbery, murder, corruption been charged to court without been arrested or invited.

Food for thought.It might be that this move by EFCC is politically motivated. We are all aware of countless of baseless and libelous accusations against GEJ. They accused him of inventing Boko Haram to reduce Northern population, Being the Grand Patron of NDA and so on. But, none of them are tenable.

In order to shun prejudgments, I think we shouldn't conclude yet.
