Gowon, Abdulsalami, Others For Abuja Religious Summit by agwom(m): 7:00am On Sep 27, 2016
Former Nigerian leaders, retired Generals Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and Cardinal John Onaiyekan are among guests to attend a religious summit today in Abuja organized by the Vienna-based International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID).
The summit, aimed at creating effective platforms towards promoting inter-religious understanding among Muslim and Christian communities in Nigeria, is also to be attended by traditional and religious leaders from different parts of the country.

Organizers of the event slated for Sheraton Hotel from 10:00am to last for three days, said in a statement by Joseph Atang, that apart from creating a platform for exchange and engagement among Nigerian religious leaders, the summit would also feature two intra-religious meetings prior to an inter-religious event, offer religious leaders throughout Nigeria an opportunity at intensive dialogue.
KAICIID Director General, Fahad Abualnasr, is expected to open the conference. Abualnasr expressed hope that the centre’s work with religious leaders from both Christian and Muslim communities in Nigeria would produce a positive outcome for the country.
KAICIID Senior Adviser, Mohammed Abu-Nimer, a professor at the School of International Service at American University, is also expected to attend the conference, among other senior officials from the organization.
