Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.A. Onimawo Kicks Off First Phase of Expansion of Internet Reception by Glo Nigeria The Prof. I.A. Onimawo’s administration has invited GLO Nigeria and MTN Nigeria into campus for the improvement of internet services in the University in order to arrest the problem of epileptic reception and inadequate bandwidth. In a brief but impressive ground breaking ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-chancellor, administration flagged off Phase I of the work on Monday, 22nd August, 2016 The Glo contractor and workers began the laying of underground cables for the connection of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma to the Glo broadband internet server through Fibre Optics technology. On completion, AAU will enjoy a massively stronger bandwidth of 155 Mb/STMI from the current 4Mb microwave. The improved internet service in this first phase will cover a distance of 1.3km, from the gate to the University’s administrative buildings. The hostels and classrooms in this area would therefore, enjoy enhanced internet availability. MTN is expected to move into campus for the same purpose. They will also establish a stronger bandwidth of 155mb to cover the area of Uke junction to the Library, covering a distance of 3.6 km. . The total distance of fibre optics coverage will be 5km in this First Phase. This goes a long way towards achieving the vision of the Vice- Chancellor in positioning this University among the ten best Universities in internet Services. This also goes to meet the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) minimum requirement for internet presence in Universities. . Edward U.
