Amnesty International has said that Nigeria is trying to muzzle dissent by arresting and intimidating journalists and protesters.

London-based rights group cites examples of police blocking peaceful protests, reports Associated Press.

Those protests include activists demanding the government rescue more than 200 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, Shiite Muslims demanding the release of their long-detained leader and separatists calling for an independent Biafra in the southeast.

The statement Wednesday says Amnesty has documented cases of enforced disappearances and killings of pro-Biafra supporters by security forces.

It also cites the detention of several journalists critical of officials in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Amnesty says the intimidation appears to be “a barefaced attempt by the Nigerian government to muzzle dissenting voices.”

It urges the government to halt detentions without trial and the excessive use of force.

Amnesty International my foot! Who have they help or are they created to monitor only Nigeria situations?

We don't hear them complaining about various racial abuse across Europe, unlawful criminal detention and execution in Asia and the complicity of white police in the continuous killing of black folks in America...... undecided
They are only taking advantage of the Nigerian environment to defend their mandate and justifies their pay.

Good, the heat on the dullard is increasing by the day while the noozle is tightning on his neck. Let him continue in his crimes against humanity, the world is taking note and at the appropriate time, he will be called to face judgement by ICC.

This amnesty international seem to have turn to another opposition party in nigeria

Nobody heard them when police shoot and killed a black kid in USA

Nor were they heard when mugabe ordered for arrest and detention of Zimbabwe Olympic team

And I havnt heard them say anything abt Russian govt of putin or the numerous execution of black in Asian countries

I also see that intimidation and unlawful detention of blacks in USA and Europe don't mean anything to them

With no office in nigeria but manage to spew garbage from a distance

Always documenting and doing nothing with the information afterwards. Charge Gen. Casandra to ICC for a start and drag him by his manhood to face justice there.

Amnesty international has been very vocal.
You obviously can't compare US and Europe with Nigeria. In the US and Europe, there is rule of law that even the president follows and there is an assurance that offenders when proven guilty would be punished by the law. Perpetuators of gun violence are arrested and charged to court and made to face a jury unlike Nigeria.
Nigeria is a jungle where there is no rule of law, so Amnesty international has to be the voice of conscience.

People have been talking and shouting it not that they hate PMB n his govt, but because if this is allowed to continue we might slide into democratic dictatorship.
This is just a yr plus into this administration, protesters re being killed, detained, oppositiion re clamped down and reports as this is coming out. Just ONE YEAR PLUS.
