You can’t ignore Biafra , Soludo tells Buhari, calls for Kanu’s release

Nigeria cannot ignore the agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra. The country will do this at her own peril, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Mr Chukwuma Soludo has said in a book launch attended by Irohinoodua correspondent.
He also called for the release of the leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, (IPOD), Mr Daniel Kanu. He said his continous detention only makes him more popular.
The former CBN boss also joined the list of people calling for the restructuring of Nigeria. He said if President Mohammadu Buhari could follow the All Progressives Congress, (APC) manifesto to restructure the country, the President would be remembered for good.
Soludo urged President Buhari to listen to voices calling for the restructuring of the country saying it was the right step to take in order to safe Nigeria from possible danger.
Soludo spoke at the public presentation of the book “The Politics of Biafra and the Future of Nigeria” produced by Chude Offodile.
Hear him “If I were President Buhari, I would be very suspicious of anyone who advices me to ignore the Biafra issue. Anyone who says that is either ignorant or being mischievous or quite patently doesn’t mean well for the government and probably wants the government to repeat the mistakes of the past. We must be learning.”
He said further “There seems to be two views: the Neo-Zikism which represents federalist versus the new-Biafranism which calls for a sovereign state of Biafra. Every one is talking of restructuring. From the book we get an insight into the faulty design of the Nigerian system. There was a modification of Aguiyi Ironsi’s unitary system into a unitary federal structure with a suffocating command structure post at Abuja. That suffocating command structure was okay for sharing and consuming while the oil rent lasted, it was inherently politically unstable and inherently unproductive.”
Soludo regretted that Nigeria still remains on the global index of poverty and instability. He said “If you see the failed or fragile state indices and the rankings of Nigeria, we have been coming back precipitously from number 54 in 2005 to now number 13. We are one of the countries under the red alert list.”
