There is no sin in you setting up your own laboratory as far as you are licensed. It all depends on your academic and research experience. To 90% BSc in Nigeria the practical aspect is alittle difficult just because of the limited exposure to practicals and some equipment but it is only a few of Polytechnic graduates who do not make their practical a point of duty will find having your laboratory difficult most especially if they thought they find themselves by mistake in the course.
It is at the beginning of your class introduction in school you will be having interest in having your own lab or not and the fast area of your concentration must be identified based on your laboratory location.
E. G Like my own now am not residing in an FMCG companies area and I look at the area of my research which based on Laboratory animal management/agro allied.with that I reside in an environment where many farms and agroallie business is their major concern and I begin my marketing awareness and under few weeks patronage comes and one thing about this area of specialisation is that you must be fast familiar with your microbes characterization off hand with limited practical to be able to reduce the cost expenses of your customer due to the kind of products they are having, what you need are just little and minimal apparatus which mostly run instant results under hours. The other related aspect is schools in which you will have to target every new session to have more new client most especially those that really just having senior classes in order to handle their laboratory construction and equipped this is not limited to that you extend to some micro production companies such as pure water, Feeds and food formulation companies like those just starting their coy to render some minimal food production technique, requirement and procedure for them as well as branding and packaging for NAFDAC approval.
Other area that is even most profitable is having training school for the area you know the people of that your location needs help Inter of development of the community at large. With this little area you can go places.

you can set up and run your own laboratory. Depending on the kind of laboratory services you want render to the public, you require at least 5-10yrs working (ie bench work) experience to be licensed to run your own laboratory (this also involves completion of several profession courses). You can be permitted to offer environmental services and/or analysis of products (mainly food, drugs, water & raw materials) for manufacturing industries.

As for medical laboratory services (ie diagnostic services), you can partner with someone, either a trained & certified pathologist or a medical laboratory scientist to operate a lab. The guidelines in place here in Nigeria mandates that only a scientist licensed by MLSCN (with prerequisite working experience) should be in charge of operations. Hence you can own the lab, but a certified professional will have to be in charge of running it.

Generally, Laboratory services in all industries (including healthcare) are not cheap. its expensive to get properly trained, set up and run, but if you're truly passionate about it, its worth it.

those courses are not for undergraduates. you'll have to be working before you can get training on them. they mainly involve biosafety courses, ISO quality assurance/management systems, training on GMP (ie good manufacturing practices), training on instrumentation and calibration etc. they are not cheap, and you'll have to be in the career path that needs them to be able to go for anyone.
