My Recent Experience with the CBN/ BVN Scammers.

Me: incoming SMS,
Reads:
Dear Customer, CBN has blocked your ATM Debit Card due to incomplete BVN registration.
Call our customer care 08144705686 to re- activate.

I laughed!

Mind you, the senders number is different from the customers care number.

Still laughing.

I tried calling with a hidden number, it didn't go.
So I called the so called Cus-scammer Care.

Me: Hello
Cus-scammer Care; yea
( you go fear yea na)
Me : which of my ATM was blocked?

**sensing danger

Cus-scammer Care: *Terminates call*

I laughed !

Very stupid fellows!

Ladies and gentlemen.
As much as possible, we need to spread the tactics of these scammers.
To maim their activities from ripping people off.

Here are few things you must know;

*Banks would never, I repeat, never text you or call requesting for your ATM pin, BVN details and Private informations.

* Read every message on your phone with great patience, especially those with Banking details.
Don't just read and act.
Read and ignore, except Alert Debit. ( don't ignore such, there must be an answer for such debits), but head to the bank.

* Watch out for spelling errors in text messages, although those guys are improving in this aspects.

* If you have any issues, go to the bank and stop waiting for an email or SMS asking to assist you.
Wake up.

My Candid Suggestion:

*Banks should henceforth disconnect every dialing code to get someone's BVN code.

Reasons are; Any phone stolen and misplaced sim cards can easily be manipulated.
Scammers can dial those codes and get the BVN code.

NCC should effect this.
Its very Important.

Somehow, these scammers have a software, that when you input your BVN code, it displays and hijack your banking details and information.

Don't scream how!
Its possible, someone designed that software about BVN, and hackers are working , daily to make things terrible.

Solutions:
Banks should henceforth give BVN code on request inside, I repeat, INSIDE the four walls of the Bank.
This would greatly reduce scammers success.

If possible, a desk should be assigned to a BVN specialist, who is proficient and quick , to ease stress and safety.

* Adverts should focus more on security than opening of an Account.
Its very important we secure the customers database, than allow more customers without optimum security.

That needs to be checked as well.

Go out and orientate people about security and healthy banking safety.

Scammers are banking on the rate of laziness by Nigerians , wanting to do everything at home without steeping an inch.
They are capitalizing on that weakness.
We need to wake up.
But then, All Banks should increase the Speed and Capabilities of their Customer Care services.

Even if you are getting more customer care related issues than deposits and withdrawal, fix that.
If your customer care response is weak, banking becomes difficult.

Fix first things first.

*Its Also Important that Service providers set up A Deactivate A Sim approach, especially when those numbers are obvious in SMS.

What I mean is this,
If The Above number on that text appears, Service providers should be able to Block Such numbers when reported!

This would curtail and weaken their mobile activities.

With these points of Mine, I pray the Bankers and Service providers and even NCC do something drastic and immediate.
