Blogging is simply expressing one’s self online and in any form or format; text or video
layout. Before blogs came into existence, most people had a dairy in which they wrote
down all that happened to them and what they intended to do (this was more like a
journal). Blogging has come to stay in this part of the country, it became popular in the
early 20’s with the likes of linda ikeji taking good advantage of it. However it is never
too late to pick up and create a dynamics to the twist of blogging. But if you’re like
most people, you may not know where to get started. Starting a blog can be
intimidating if you don’t have the required technological skills.

How to start a blog in four basic steps
? Think of a good catchy name for your blog
? Set up your blog
? Set up a theme for your blog with any template you desire
? Write your first blog and post

Why do people blog?
Blogging has long started for a while now, but the very first blogs were really “glorified
online journals”, and in all likelihood and honesty, becoming a professional blogger
and making money online wasn’t the entire main goal.

Since then, blogging has evolved, and now people blog for many different reasons.
There are even distinctions among types of blogs which are not limited to the
following: business, lifestyle, fashion, food, and entertainment blogs, among others.

Here’s a list of reasons why people blog (not limited to the following):
Express oneself with one’s passion

Making a difference in the blogging sphere
Knowledge sharing
Earing more exposure and networking links
Becoming an authority figure in the blogging world
Building an online portfolio
Market Your Business
Earning money

Introduction to blogging for profit
Blogging for profit

Speak to one target audience –the whole time: Figure out who is buying what you’re
selling and write a blog post for them. Now, you may have different audiences you’re
trying to reach, so you may need to change who this target audience is from post to post.
But be sure each individual blog post is consistent from start to finish.

Be short and sweet: A good blog post is between 400 –1,000 words; easy enough to
digest during a coffee break. If you have more to say, consider breaking your post into
two parts, or tightening up your ideas and language. And remember, just because
something is short doesn’t mean it’s easy to read. Make posts easy to skim by cutting
content up into sections or lists.

Have a compelling title and leading paragraph: Make your readers want to read your post
right away. But don’t promise something with your title and intro that you don’t deliver.
(We’ll go over how to create compelling titles in just a bit.)

Ask other bloggers to mention your post Building relationships with other bloggers in your
space and asking them to blog about or link to your post can be a great way to expand
your reach. Reciprocating promotional efforts can have a big payoff in the form of highquality
backlinks and big jumps in search engine rankings, blog traffic and subscribers.
