ARREST AND DETENTION OF CORRUPT NIGERIAN SUPREME COURT JUDGES: Concerned Nigerians, Lawyers demand total Re-trial or Unconditional release of Dr. Rev. King, Others.

By: Iherue Chibuike; 10th October, 2016.

Following shocking revelations of massive judicial graft stemming from last weekend's invasion, arrest and detention of some Appellate and Supreme Court Judges by the Department of State Service (DSS) in the course of a sting operation, Nigerians whose relatives and loved ones appeared to be direct victims of pervasion of justice by the aforementioned corrupt judicial officers are demanding an outright re-trial or an unconditional release of these victims of bribe induced judgements.

Speaking to reporters who were on the streets of Lagos to sample public opinion on the current efforts of the present administration towards the Fight Against Corruption, Mr. Chukwudi King; a resident of Ogudu Estate in Lagos, who further introduced himself both as a biological relative to Dr. Rev. King and a member of his church was visibly elated at the development but regretted that all efforts made during the course of Rev. King's trial to get the NJC to wade into and investigate the obvious case of bribery which went on in broad day-light between the prosecution and the trial judge at the lower court, fell on deaf ears.

He (Mr. Chukwudi King) however expressed optimism that as soon as the state succeeds in establishing bribery and corruption cases against the arrested Supreme Court judges and have them convicted, it would be morally expedient on the government to follow the judicial precedence laid by the reversal of the conviction of Mr. Olabode George; a South-West PDP chieftain, in giving back justice to every Nigerian who had suffered bias in the hands of these evil men, after it was discovered years after Olabode's sentence that his conviction was in error and consequently, left off the hook unconditionally.

A legal practitioner; Barr. O. Johnson, who took a while off his busy schedule to speak to correspondents at the premesis of Igbosere Magistrate Court opined that there is nothing wrong in the executive taking steps to sanitize the nations judicial system, affirming his support for the fight against corruption by the Buhari Government, asserting also that no one is above the law including the judges of the highest cadre. Having said that, he further pointed out that he has a bit of problem with the gestapo style invasion which the law enforcement agents employed in carrying out their duty making a clear case for respect of the rule of law even in the strangest of circumstances.

A woman who prefered to speak on condition of anonymity gave kudos to the DSS for a job-well-done while encouraging the officers of the law to beam their searchlight on more judges both at the High and Appellate courts. In her opinion, the likes of Justice Olubunmi Joseph Oyewole; who sadly, is now an apeal court judge, who handled Rev. King's murder trial at the level of the High Court, where acoording to her, the bulk of the bribery took place, should be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted as the crackdown on corruption at the level of the Judiciary, which incidentally, is the third arm of government, will not be complete until such "judicial disasters" as Justice Oyewole are not only shown the way out of Nigeria's judiciary but prosecuted and jailed to serve as deterrent to others.

It would be recalled that the Supreme Court Justices, caught in the web of that sting operation over the last weekend by the DSS, where Cash of various hard-currecies and denominations running into Billions were recovered from their homes, are part of the Eight-Man bench who sat over Rev. King's matter at the level of the Supreme Court; Who against expectations of even great legal luminaries, watered down all the grounds of appeal raised by Rev. King on frivolous excuses absolutely unknown to law.
