Before we go any further,

There are 2 categories of contestants here:

1. PROFESSIONALS

These are classified as developers that have been busy working and creating stuffs - that will show us some of it later for voting purposes.

I'd like to give a rundown of the prize which these guys are vying for.

The Winner of this contest will go home with 50,000 Naira.

The 1st Runner Up wins 30,000 Naira and

The 2nd Runner Up will win 20,000 Naira

And some other consolation prizes.

Again, you never how far this thing can go, it can even result in great job offers.

2. NEWBIES

These are classified as beginners in this field, who might be actively learning and have not mastered any technology yet.
So they will be required to show us what they have been learning and build simple projects to demonstrate what they have learnt so far.

For this category:

I'd like to give a rundown of the prize which these guys are vying for.

The Winner of this contest will go home with 20,000 Naira.

The 1st Runner Up wins 10,000 Naira and

The 2nd Runner Up will win 5,000 Naira

And some other consolation prizes.

All sponsored by your humble host.

If we can get more sponsors, that will be appreciated.

Warning: please try to ensure that you contest in the correct category you belong to in other to avoid disqualification.

I shall publish the profiles later after I get them, guess that will be all for now. Thank you.
Re: The Most Popular Programmer On Nairaland 2016 Edition (verification Round) by Nobody: 9:08am On Oct 14, 2016
The deadline for submission of profiles is 28th of october, 2016 (that is a 2weeks gap). Anyone that has failed to submit a profile by then will be disqualified (and this will reduce my stress).

I must give the contestants a heads up. There will be a phase where people will have to vote for your work.

For newbies, I will recommend they start building whatever stuffs they like into their github or bitbucket for review later on when we get to that phase.

I guess that will be all for now, any further information will be communicated appropriately.

Are the two categories for only the valid nominees??
Re: The Most Popular Programmer On Nairaland 2016 Edition (verification Round) by Nobody: 10:35am On Oct 14, 2016
Yes, when the nominees send their profile, they will tell me the category they are contesting in. It will not be fair to put newbies and professionals into the same category, that is the reason for the splitting.
So both categories will get their awards separately.
Re: The Most Popular Programmer On Nairaland 2016 Edition (verification Round) by FincoApps(m): 10:43am On Oct 14, 2016
I think it would be better if the people under the "PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY" should be given a project, where they all do and show on Github.

This way, the voting would be based on the same project type.

Because some guys might have all just been working on projects for clients and these projects might not be exceptional enough while some others might have even worked on 3D games, so that would definitely get more votes

This actually makes a lot of sense but some people might not have the time to work on a new project.
Also, if you're voting for the most interesting project, it would be very bias as some projects might be complex but just not interesting to this audience. Consider difference in sectors too (web, desktop, embedded, server etc.) and of course the most important thing, working on proprietary apps/devices.

I think you need to put in more thought into the professionals category.

Re: The Most Popular Programmer On Nairaland 2016 Edition (verification Round) by lekropasky(m): 5:39pm On Oct 14, 2016
Oga dhtml18, i think i want to implore you to think about Fincoapps suggestion. Its the best, i think. It'll even enable beginners to learn. If we are to submit our github handle, it wont make more sense.(maybe). Many guys/programmers hardly have time for personal projects...client projects might sometimes be overwhelming - you should understand na.
