A day old baby boy suspected to have been abandoned was this found dead by a river bank in Eruda area of Ilorin metropolis.
Our correspondent gathered that, the dead baby was discovered by a resident at about , she raised alarm that attracted people within the vicinity to the scene.
According to an eyewitness who simply identified herself as Iya Risi, she disclosed to this medium that the baby was left for death naked, adding that he was probably abandoned in the middle of the night.
"The baby was probably dumped here in the middle of the night, because it couldn't have been dumped in the night because this is where people defecate and dump dirts.
"We woke up and discovered the dead baby and raised alarm and the whole community gathered at the place, the community contacted the police immediately.
Speaking on the incident, a community leader who simply identified himself as Alfa Jamiu said "the corpse was discovered at about by passerby and it was promptly reported to the police.
"I rushed to the place to see for myself and immediately we reported the case to "B" Divisional Police Station, Surulere in Ilorin. They came and promised to contact Ilorin West Local Government health workers to evacuate the remains of the baby" he added.
However as at when our correspondent visited the site, the remains of the baby was still at the scene.
All eforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command, Ajayi Okasanmi to confirm the incident proved abortive as calls made to his mobile phones were unanswered and text messages not responded as at the time of filing this report.
In the same vein, when our correspondent visited the ministry of Social Development & culture, the commissioner Alh. Iyabo Adewuyi was not on seat & effort to get her to speak on phone proved abortive.
