APPARENTLY unsure of its ability to outages of electricity supply during the forthcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup competition being hosted by Nigeria, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has promised to minimise power interruptions during the month-long event.

In a statement, PHCN said it had set up a Preventive Maintenance Task Force in all its Field Units and Service Centres throughout the federation to monitor power interruptions and take urgent action for prompt restoration of supply.

The company wished all Nigerian soccer fans a happy viewing time throughout the World Cup fiesta.

The statement read, "In preparation for the Nigeria 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Cup competition which comes up from October 24 to November 15, 2009, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in the pursuit of its mandate to boost power supply towards attaining 6000MW by December, 2009 will make concerted efforts to minimise power interruptions during the competition.

"In the event of unforeseen equipment breakdown during the period, management appeals for calm and understanding as there would be quick response to fault complaints."

At least they didn't say power supply will be uninterrupted meaning there will be power outages once in a while. I hope this regular power supply will extend to all the nooks & cranies of the host states and not just the areas where the hotels, stadia, training pitches and other hosting facilities are located.

At least, make I enjoy regular power supply for the 1 month wey we go host dis u-17 world cup.

Piece of advice sha - The L.O.C should use generators as the main power supplier and put PHCN on standby.

are athey talking about uninterupted power to watch the matches only or power throughout the entire duration of the tournament ?
