The check engine sign was displayed on the dash board followed by engine miss fire of my Ford Edge 2010, 3.5L & upon diagnosis subject error code, P1299, was read on the OBD II device. Kindly advice on the possible cause of this problem to enable fix the car

This code means cylinder head temperature sensor detected an overheating condition: possible causes


Low engine coolant
- Faulty Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor
- Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor circuit poor electrical connection

This would cause man engine misfire. The CHTs is one of the sensor responsible for actual fuel injection. If values are altered or the sensor is faulty the computer box would not have the correct information used to inject fuel into the combustion chamber thereby leading to a rough idling or a misfire.

I noticed the following morning the engine coolant was drained completely leading to overheating condition. I have fixed same and my car is back to life.
