Ogun State To Invoke A 'no Work, No Pay' Penalty On Workers if They Go On Strike by Hardeysolution(m): 7:51am On Oct 20, 2016
The Ogun State Government has described the proposed strike “called by a few disgruntled elements” in the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) as illegal.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, on Monday, the State Government wondered why this few, unpopular elements would seek to lead workers out on a misguided strike action since government has not defaulted in the payment of salaries as and when due.

“For instance, the Ogun State government paid its workers September salaries on September 25, 2016,” the statement said.

It added: “With regards to the backlog of unpaid cooperative deductions, the SSG added that the state government has also kept faith with an agreement it reached with labour leaders in March 2016 to the effect that one month of cooperative deductions would be paid, alongside monthly salaries, every two months.

“We promised to pay outstanding gratuities when we receive bulk funds from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) but this has not been forthcoming due to the dwindling revenue profile of the state.”

Barrister Adeoluwa said that, in addition to this, the Ogun State Government is also aware of the fact that under the extant Public Service rules, “the TUC/NLC, which signed the notice of strike action issued on Monday, have no roles in calling workers out on a strike action at the state level. On the contrary, it is only the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council that is authorised to do so.”

The statement said: “In view of this, the Ogun State Government therefore declares the proposed strike action as illegal, unreasonable and totally uncalled for while urging the generality of its workforce not to heed the call of a few misguided elements whose motive is clearly political.”

To buttress this point, the Ogun SSG said information at the disposal of the State Government has shown that the labour leaders have ulterior motives beyond the protection of the interest of workers. This is further exemplified by what played out during the commemoration of the 2016 World Teachers Day when labour leaders, against the grain of Civil Service Rules, hired a musician and sang the praise of a politician for hours on end.

“In the circumstance, the State Government hereby serves notice that it will invoke the ‘no work, no pay’ rule of the Trade Dispute Act in relation to any worker who chooses to embark on this illegal strike action,” the statement further said.

Amosun is a sly old devil whose avarice remains unabated. This cheap attempt to discredit the leadership of the state labour unions is utterly nauseating. Amosun and his henchmen can continue to feign ignorance of the crux of the matter, it won't get the workers back to work.

For the uninitiated who have been taken in by the lies in the government's statement, the strike is not about salary payment but the deductions that workers save in cooperatives which the governor could not take his kleptomaniac fingers off. Many workers save as much as 80% of their salaries in these cooperatives.

Amosun's abominable treatment of Ogun State workers has a pay day. He and his party will soon get their wage.

What kind of poor defence is this? I really wonder if you reside in Ogun State. Amosun has been eating up state workers' deductions for more than a year now and you find that acceptable?

Ogun State civil servants are right in their call on the governor to pay them what is due to them. Many of them save a large chunk of their salaries in cooperatives. The governor should not have dipped his hands into their savings.

Don't mind the young man; he is just feigning ignorance of Amosun's indebtedness to many state workers.

tasce was owed by gbenga Daniel's regime. Amosun wanted to pay. The management submitted 3002 names of workers, when they were only 302. Understand before commenting please... .......now he has called them for registration and only those who register will get paid. Meanwhile, all institutions were asked to use IGR. But now, tasce didn't do that. The workers protested against the rector not amosun.. ..please.. ...dont carry wrong news

Walahi am telling you, it's really pathetic. Most of the lecturers have died because of these.

Amosun said he wants to move the institution back to ijagun in ijebu ode but the community don't want the institution moved away from their area, so amosun agreed because elections were coming up then and he didn't want to lose.
But he started punishing the staff of the institution by not paying them salaries.

Amosun isn't flying this second term at all

Wee you kip kwayet .

I have a very very close relative in that institution, so don't tell me rubbish here.
Gbenga Daniel's adminstation owed them 48 months salaries. I know people will doubt this but it's the truth ,you can simply run a search on this on Google.
But when amosun came in, he promised things will change, that he will not owe them anything and that if the revenue in the state should increase then he will pay the 48 months salary owed by Daniel adminstation.
But after that amosun failed to do that, he claimed since he wasn't the one that owed them the 48 months salaries, that he can't pay them, forgetting that government is continuous, you inherit both assets and liabilities .

The lie that the management submitted 3002 names is a lie, and there's no registration anywhere, what we have is normal verification of workers. The government has been using that ridiculous claim to mislead the public, so they could blame the lecturers.
Let's even assume the claim is right that they submitted 3002 names, so are you now telling us that the government had to wait for 16 months to rectify that?
Besides the state government have the names of tasce workers on their payroll . Tasce didn't create itself instead the government did. So why can't the government not fulfil his responsibilities

Now I agree with you that the tasce management has crisis but why didn't the government change its management instead of allowing their tenure to run out?
There are insinuations that the commissioner for education and other government officials connived with the past provost to ruin the school.

Amosun tenure simply destroyed tasce, no effort to resuscitate the school.

If you don't know things then don't spew rubbish

Google the idea behind what? Did Ogun State workers just begin to save part of their salaries in cooperatives? Is the scheme not almost as old as the state civil service?

You can keep defending Amosun's rapaciousness. It won't stop the gathering storm that will sweep him and his party away.
