Obiano Is A Failure, Says Obiogbolu by FlashyPrince: 1:04pm On Oct 20, 2016
Critics of the political goings-on in Anambra State have continued to haul darts at Governor Willie Obiano – accusing him of ineptitude in handling the affairs of the state.
The critics insist that Chief Obiano, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), should forget his ambition of getting a second term in office as the governor of the state.
The latest salvos against Obiano are coming from a stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and leader of the Oganiru Anambra Movement in the state, Dr Alex Obiogbolu.
Obiogbolu had contested for the governorship ticket of Anambra State under the PDP for some time and nearly clinched the ticket.
Obiogbolu has expressed regrets that the Willie Obiano administration is not doing enough to protect Anambra traders and businesses from systematic exploitation by commercial banks and oppressive government policies.
He said the current administration in the state does not have what it takes to lead Anambra State to economic prosperity.
Obiogbolu spoke during the award ceremony organized by the Anambra Consensus Project for 57 traders in Anambra State.
He said that he was happy that at last the immense contributions of traders to the economic growth of Anambra State were being recognized.
He commended the awardees for their awards and reminded them of the enormous responsibility the award had bestowed upon them. He advised them to continue to maintain high ethical standards in their business and commercial activities which had brought recognition to the people of the South East.
Dr Obiogbolu, however, expressed concerns that the state government was not doing enough to protect the interests of the traders who contribute so much to the overall socio-economic development of the state.
He decried the insensitivity of the commercial banks who, in 2015 alone, collected over 370 billion naira in deposits in Anambra State and yet extended credits to Ndi Anambra of less than 40 billion naira.
The PDP stalwart pointed out that the Anambra State government had not done anything to protect the huge deposit being taken outside the state to empower outsiders at the expense of the industrialists, manufacturers and traders many of whom actually need soft loans to finance their businesses.
He further condemned the lack of access to foreign exchange to these traders for importation, lamenting that many warehouses were virtually empty, whilst the government finds foreign exchange for frivolous foreign trips.
He advised the Willie Obiano administration to be more responsive and alive to their social obligations to the people of Anambra, saying that the situation where their brothers and next of kin in other states were killed or their property destroyed and no one spoke up for them was unbecoming of the renowned Igbo unity and doctrine of “Onye aghana nwanne ya”.
Dr Obiogbolu stated that leaders must be alive to their responsibilities and that Ndi Anambra “do not expect salvation from the federal government as we are currently witnessing but we expect our government to rally our people and lead us to economic prosperity”.
He reminded the gathering that there was nothing that can kill the Igbo spirit of perseverance and faith in God and self as 45 years after every adult was given 20 Nigerian pounds irrespective of their wealth, the South East has become the home to the highest number of billionaires per square kilometre and has the lowest poverty rate in the country.

It is very apparent that Willie Obiano has lost it, he lacks the quality of good leadership. If not, how do one explain his excesses, his inability to work with major stakeholders in the state and his unwillingness to acknowledge men and women who have been contributing massively to the development of the state both economically and socially. Willie Obiano should just finish is one term and leave the stage for a serious minded person to stir the affairs of Anambra State.

Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano
Anambra State government has expressed its readiness to end open defecation by 2025 through encouraging citizens to build toilets in all motor parks, markets, hospitals and other public places.
The Commissioner for Power and Domestic Water Development, Obi Nwankwo, stated this in a chat with journalists in Awka as part of activities to mark the 2016 global Hand Washing Day with the theme ‘Making Hand Washing a Habit’.

He explained that the water supply sanitation sector reform programme 11 is partnering UNICEF in creating awareness on understanding the importance of hand washing with soap as an easy way of preventing diseases and saving lives.
Nwankwo who disclosed that the open defecation free road map would be presented to the public same day, called on the people to be self-disciplined by defecating in toilets and washing their hands regularly.
“We want to totally eradicate disease causing germs in our society. We have realised that some people still defecate in the open, so we want to eradicate it. We want to encourage people to build toilets and wash their hands regularly after using the toilet, after child management and before eating,” he said.
He also announced that the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, would be crowned the ‘Wash Ambassador’ in recognition of her role in the provision of safe water, toilets and hand washing facilities to Anambra children, women and people living with disabilities.
Similarly, plans are on towards the elimination of open defecation in Sokoto State, with 67 communities in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state already certified open defecation free (ODF) .
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Arzika Tureta, who disclosed this while speaking on the rural water and sanitation efforts of the ministry, said in collaboration with UNICEF, six new local government areas of Bodinga, Gada, Tureta, Tambuwal, Silame and Dange/Shuni had been selected to work within the 2016 fiscal year.
He said remarkable achievements were recorded in community approach to total sanitation (CATS) in Tangaza Local Government Area.
“The programme is aimed towards the elimination of open defecation i.e. to have communities that are open defecation free, where nobody will defecate outside unless in the latrine,” he said.
Tureta said community-led total sanitation (CLTS) had been executed in 60 new communities in Tangaza LGA while 1,980 water sanitation hygiene communities (WASHCOM) members, comprising 1,320 males and 660 females, were trained in 132 communities of the locality.
