Kim woke up when she felt a light feather like touch on her cheeks.

She opened her eyes slowly, yawning.

"Baby...... " she said softly staring at Hailey who was giving her an observing look.

"You look so sad mummy, i dont want to see you like this, it makes me sad too" Hailey finally let Kim into what was running through her mind.

Kim forced a smile , "i am good sweetie" she had not even finished speaking when Hailey cut her short.

"please don't lie to me mummy, i know that you are sad, you shouldn't hide that from me" she said softly.

Kim's heart skipped a beat. It pained her to see her baby so sad.

"what do you think he did?" Kim asked staring at her daughter who seemed to know more than her age.

"Daddy was naked with another woman which wasn't you, my friend crystal said only married couples are allowed to be naked with each other" Hailey said innocently and Kim tried her best to hold back her tears.
She felt it difficult to breathe.
It seemed Hailey was the older one here because she was more in control.

Kim sat up , "daddy did something really bad, but he is still your father, do you understand me?" she said stating the obvious fact, not wanting Hailey to despise her father.

Hailey raised a brow in confusion, "but he hurt you mummy" she countered.

Kim held back her tears.

When did her daughter grow this fast?

"Baby, he hurt me, not you, you dont get to get angry for what he did to me" Kim said convincingly.

"He made you cry mummy, i know you cried all through last night, if you cry mummy, i cry" Hailey said with a sad face.

"it still doesn't change the fact that he is your father, do you understand me?" Kim asked sternly.

"Yes mummy" Hailey replied with a long face.

Kim and Hailey stepped out to the hotel's resturant to get something to eat when they bumped into Denzel.

Denzel smiled softly,staring into Kim's eyes.

"so you are in Lagos and you won't even pick any of my calls" he said huskily.

Kim knew that she was busted. She was about to speak when Denzel cut her short.
"And who is this little angel?" Denzel asked smiling at Hailey who was smiling right back.

"my name is Hailey, and i am her daughter" Hailey said holding Kim's hand.

"Isn't she adorable?" Denzel said asking no one in particular.

"She is the best thing that has happened in my life" Kim said proudly.

"Isn't that obvious. How about i get you some ice cream Hailey?, why don't you go and make your choice?" Denzel asked and Hailey quickly ran to the ice-cream stand.

Kim glared at Denzel, "you did that on purpose" she accused.

Denzel shrugged, "you won't blame me. I have not spoken to you in ages and the next thing i hear is that you have left your husband, why?"

Kim frowned, "how do you know that?" she asked.

"it's all over the internet. Everyone knows, even the people that are pretending so hard not to look" he said plainly.

"How did this happen, i have not even told anyone yet", she said angrily.

"That retard doesn't deserve you. He always treated you like sh!t, but you stayed still. Kim i can treat you better than he ever did. You wouldn't ever regret knowing me. Come to me kim" Denzel said convincingly and Kim smiled softly.

"Right now, i don't need a man in my life" Kim said bluntly.

Denzel was about to speak when Hailey came back with a cup of ice cream.

Six years ago

Kim finally mustered the courage to walk up to her parents to tell them she was pregnant.

She didn't go alone.

Ralph was with her all the way.

"Ehn, this girl has killed me!!" her mother shouted dramatically but her father sat down quietly with folded arms.

"Is this not what i always draw your ear against ehn?!" her mother shouted.

"Ma, i am planning on taking total responsibility of this child" Ralph said gently.

Kim's father diverted his attention to Ralph. His eyes lingering on Ralph's tattoos.

Kim's mother face deepened in a frown, "Over my dead body would she marry a tattooed boy. A man who is the perfect description of the devil himself" she said with anger causing Ralph to frown angrily.

Kim squeezed Ralph's hand gently.

"let's get out of here" Ralph said quietly at first.

Kim thought she didn't hear clearly.

"what did you say?" she asked with confusion.

"Your mother just called me a devil's incarnate, so follow me now and let's go" Ralph said with annoyance.

Kim's mother laughed bitterly, "is that not what you are? My daughter is going no where with you" she spat out.

Kim's father who had been silent all along finally spoke.

"Let her choose, it's her choice, she is a grown woman, she is responsible for her mistakes and any mistakes she would still make" her father said to her mother.

Ralph was looking at Kim to make a choice.

"We don't need their blessings Kim" Ralph said convincingly.

Kim wanted Ralph. She didn't think she could live without him. This was the life that she had always wanted , and now it was right in her face her parents were making her choose. She sure as heck wouldn't choose her parents who would forever remind her about the mistake she had made.

"Mum, Dad i am so sorry but i want Ralph, he is going to marry me and make everything right. If i don't, people would talk, so it's best if i go" kim said trying hard not to look at her mother's crying face or her father whose jaw was twitching which only happens when he is trying to stay calm.

Kim's mother bursted into tears and kim felt her eyes go watery but Ralph was by her side.

Kim and Ralph stood up to leave and Kim's mother tried stopping her but her father stopped her and the last thing she heard was her father saying, "let her go,she would come back" and the volume of her mother's cries increase.........
