Thanks a lot. I have a passion for aviation. I wanted to become a pilot but the training cost is so expensive. So I am cosidering a career in air traffic control. Do I go ahead with training myself in NCAT before looking for a job? Or does NAMA employ and train people by themselves? Any advice you have for me will be appreciated. Thanks
message me on whatsapp of u want to knw everything about ATC. im currently running the programme at NCAT ZARIA. 08050995850

Pilots are different from ATCs sir. Like I said, NAMA is seriously shortstaffed. I'm speaking based on facts. You probably carry an FAA and a CAA licence with a 737NG/Classic type..Really doesn't hve much to do with ATCs. NAMA is going through an intensive audit by the ICPC and EFCC at the moment is why there are no recruitment exercises going on.
u are very right....NAMA is shortstaffed, i work with NAMA and im am presently doing ATC in Zaria, 40 of us are presently in training. Controller's retire monthly n it has become a thing of concern to NAMA. They are seriously short staffed coz they have not been training ATC all these while

We are both professionals in the field, ofcourse I know its different, that's why I used the phrase the "aviation sector" which also covers ATC. if your certain about availability of Jobs, I can send atleast 5 ATC guys to you.
u are wrong. In recent times only NAMA Train ATC personnels. If u go as a private student u are own ur own coz nobody will employ u to work under the nigerian airspace

Even if you are a farmer, you can still become a pilot. what it takes is training and the right mental alertness and the resource(money)

NCAT is one of the most renowned Aviation School in Nigeria, there are more but NCAT seems to be the best for now.
Standard Pilot is about N7.5m.. ATC is about N1.5m
Atc is 2.5 million

For proper avionics; you have to go study abroad. As regards Airframe and PP, Zaria is your best bet and yes, there are jobs out there as long as you know where to look. The aviation industry and ways has and ways window. A window for recruitment enmasse.

If one keeps looking at things from the 'no job' angle, one would never accomplish anything educationally. The fees are huge no doubt but then again, people are getting employed. What makes you any different?

I'm currently Wit NAMA ,but on training wit NCAT as an ATC student.
As a trainee you just earn some stipends as a level 08 officer.
After completion of the training you get promoted to level 09,salary plus allowances ranging to about 400 k,atleast for a start, then probably about five years later it gets a lot better say 700-800k, by then you will be a level 12 officer. By the time you get to the peak of your career, it's so so great, you could earn as much as 3million -4million Naira monthly (i.e salary +allowances)thereabout, recent adjustment just took place within the organization, you could download the conditions of service on line for NAMA.
Please note that the chunk of the pay comes from the number of licences you have and not the salary, because some have gotten to the peak of their career but do not have all the licences, meaning they might not earn as much as the other person who has the whole ratings(licences). Every five years you are due to get an added rating to the previous one you had thereby climbing the ladder and NAMA will be responsible for the training.
Air traffic controllers job is one in the aviation industry that comprises of most of the other disciplines in the aviation sector, you are trained to think like an aircraft engineer, even as a pilot, because as an air traffic controller you are also trained to fly aircraft's.
Its one hell of a job that gives lots of challenges and the the pay is quite comparable and good to that of the pilots,if not even better in my own opinion, the advantage of job security is much much higher compared to flying as a pilot.
Well a career to becoming a pilot is a good one, but if you look closely you will see that there are no jobs for pilots, na-man-who-know-man dey get the flying jobs.
Well the only problem wit ATC is that, you can only be trained and sponsored by the Federal Government.

I hope this information helped someone
