Thanks a lot. I have a passion for aviation. I wanted to become a pilot but the training cost is so expensive. So I am cosidering a career in air traffic control. Do I go ahead with training myself in NCAT before looking for a job? Or does NAMA employ and train people by themselves? Any advice you have for me will be appreciated. Thanks

I'm a graduate of NCAT and a licenenced aeronautical telecomms engineer. My advice for you is this; Get a degree as this gives you an edge, enrol in NCAT (ATC school as NAMA doesn't train fresh guys anymore so I'm afraid you'd have to annymoreponsor yourself) and then apply in NAMA. You'll def get a job. NAMA is seriously shortstaffed.

Bros do not give the guy false hope, yes encourage him to follow his passion but please don't give him false hope. There are very very limited jobs in the aviation sector right now. I have 2 foreign license and just did my conversion at NCAA annex house. Pilots with different type ratings still no Job.

NAMA employs and trains people by themselves but you may not be lucky enough to be amongst the few. Take the course,be informed and then apply.

The pay is usually between 150-200k for beginner. From a reliable source.

Pilots are different from ATCs sir. Like I said, NAMA is seriously shortstaffed. I'm speaking based on facts. You probably carry an FAA and a CAA licence with a 737NG/Classic type..Really doesn't hve much to do with ATCs. NAMA is going through an intensive audit by the ICPC and EFCC at the moment is why there are no recruitment exercises going on.

Re: How Much Do Air Traffic Controllers Earn In Nigeria? by JingoOAU(m): 7:49am On Nov 05, 2016
Are you an ATC man?

Reading all the comments here, I almost fainted with laughter....if you like, sponsor yourself to NCAT or any aviation training school, NAMA wouldn't take you.

NAMA only send their staff to NCAT for training.

As for the salary issues, it depends on Ratings.....ATC ratings are segmented into 3. the salary of ATC is the same with other staff, but the rating allowance is the biggest. The rating allowance starts from 150k...especially for level 8 officers...as a graduate you should be getting up to 250per month....

By the time you get to the pinnacle of your career in ATC, you should be earning nothing less than 1.2m to 1.5million... and you are entitled to foreign and local training every year....

Lastly, don't waste your money to go train yourself in NCAT cos NAMA wouldn't take you...NAMA will only send u to NCAT for ATC when you are already a staff of NAMA
