During Admission processes into tertiary institutions in Nigeria, there is always a quota for ELDS (educationally less developed states).
This has outlived its usefulness, the reason being that most of this students didn't even receive their secondary school education in this states and the situation of education when the policy was made is now totally different from what we have today.
Let us take into consideration a case study of two students pursuing admission at the University of Ibadan, into the college of Medicine. Student A scored 74 points, student B scored 72 points, but both of them schooled in a prestigious school in Lagos. Student B was admitted but student A was not. The reason is that student A did not the merit cutoff of 76 points and his state of origin is not from an ELDS, but Student B met d ELDS cutoff of 71 and he is from an ELDS state of origin.
From the above illustration, you can now see that ELDS is a fraud in this present day. Despite the fact that both students educational background is like a level playing ground.

It's actually not fair....... Some students who are not even from any ELDS end up choosing one of those states on their jamb form so as to increase their chances of admission
