I think I need to talk about water pump.

From my sojourn in this irrigation work of which I am self trained, I have discovered a lot of misconceptions.

Let me make it straight here.

Drip irrigation works with gravity. It means it uses an overhead tank. This is the manufacturer's design. It can also work with pressure pumps but that will give additional cost. But I must say that it saves time when the drip is pressured on a small scale farm like 1 hectare or 2.

Sprinkler/ Rain guns is designed to use a pressure pump. Most times, the mud pump is used and its efficient once the sprinklers are operated intermittently and well networked.

Italian brands of pressure pumps either surface , mud pump or submersible have given me outstanding results and I must say this is not a paid advert. Though, they are expensive compared to the common chinko brands.

I must say that any source of perrenial water is good for irrigation provided it small scale.

When we are dealing with 10 hectares and above, we will have to take water parameters too after soil testing since we will be using sand filters and other accessories to make the work good.

I must say here that there is no small irrigation. Its in hundreds of thousands of naira in its micro scale and early millions in its mini state.
