TOPIC: “VICTORY OVER SIN” TEXT: BIBLE PASSAGE: ROMANS 6:8-14 kjv 8: Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10: For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11: Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12: Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13: Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14: For sin shall command men dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. MEMORY VERSE: Romans 6:13: Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. LESSON INTRODUCTION After salvation, the deep cry of every heart should be for holiness, to be like Christ, to overcome sin and to live a blameless and holy life. Some Christians try to be holy and at times they do not succeed so they become discouraged. They become fearful of preaching holiness lest they be seen as preaching something they cannot practice. Some Christians have never ever heard of the victorious life of holiness so they continue sinning and confessing from day to day. The Bible teaches glorious victory over sin for every believer. In John 5:4, John was not speaking about victory in Heaven but of victory on earth; daily victory over the world and the lusts thereof. LESSON OUTLINE 1: CLAIMING THE PROMISES OF GOD How can believers obtain and retain victory over sin? i. Identify that we can do all things by Christ Jesus and that without Him we can only do nothing- Phillip 4:13; John15:5 ii. Remember that you have been given the commandment to be holy- 1Pet1:15-16 iii. Understand that we have victory over sin through Christ- Romans8:37 iv. Believe that believers will triumph always and dominate sin through Christ- Romans6:14; 2Corinth 2:14 v. Understand that you are dead with Christ- Gal 2:20 vi. Understand that a dead man cannot sin vii. Understand that you are buried with Christ- Romans 6:4 viii. Understand too that the old man in you has been buried also ix. Believe that you are now alive with Christ- Romans 6:5 x. Believe that you now have victory and dominion over sin- Romans 6:8 LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE CHOICE TO MAKE i. Believers have choice on whether to be a victor over sin or vanquished ii. If you decided to be on the winning side, you must observe the following: a. You must yield yourself to God- Romans 6:13 b. Bring your faith of being alive from dead to work c. Understand that yielding to Christ is freedom from sin- Romans6:18 d. Understand that yielding to sin is going back to the bondage and captivity of sin- Romans6:19 SUMMARY i. Yield to Christ always and retain your victory over sin ii. Yield to sin and lose your victory over sin iii. You should chose Christ and victory CONCLUSION- Probably you have tried to live victoriously before and you have failed. What should be done now? 1John1:9 is still true. Jesus has never failed. Your failure has not weakenedChrist. Obey the commands of the Spirit as Hedirects you in your daily routine. CLOSING PRAYER i. My father, do not return into the captivity of sin again ii. My father let me have a complete restoration, in the name of Jesus. iii. My father, help my unbelief and relief me of every stress of sin, in the name of Jesus. God Bless You 3 Likes 1 Share
