We are excited to present the first blog post in a series that will explore some of the innovative businesses springing up in the country.
To kick off the series, we are going to explore the indigenous food and snacks sub-sector to highlight five innovative food companies that are worthy of note. Selecting only five was not an easy task, as the food-related startup world has never been more prolific than today. One thing is for sure: quality is high, inspiration is everywhere, and opportunities are endless.

OmoAlata
OmoAlata (McPeppers) is a Nigerian food service brand focused on the production and sale of hygienically processed and packaged local Nigerian soups, spices and peppers. OmoAlata aspires to use its strong local brand identity to position an international product range that will sit in stores all over the world for Nigerians and other customers present in these markets.
OmoAlata uses only farm fresh peppers in preparation of all its pepper mix. Our pepper mix does not contain any food coloring or artificial preservatives and it is packed under hygienic conditions with a strict quality assurance policy.
OmoAlata is founded by Kasope Ladipo-Ajai, a computer science graduate of Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo.


Golnar Foods
Golnar Foods was established in 2014 to provide healty indeginous food products, prepared to the highest standards to guaranteee consumer satisfaction. Golnar Foods currently produces Premium Kilishi – in Beef and Chicken Variants. Golnar Foods was founded by Uche Ezeozue and has its base in Abuja.


Bubez Foods
Since it was established in August 2012, Bubez Foods has been processing raw pap (Akamu/Ogi) into a wide range of nutritious and hygenically pack range of products. The company currently has twelve varieties of its product in the market. This includes a formula fit for babies.
Bubez foods is equipped with modern, leading-edge machinery for processing pap.
The company is founded by its CEO, Ijeoma Ndukwe-Egwuronu, an alumni of Lagos Business School. Bubez foods seeks to be Nigeria’s leading food processing and packaging company and traditional food brand of choice. In May 2016, the company moved to its permanent site in Lokogoma District of Abuja.


ReelFruit
ReelFruit started in 2012 as a snack and beverage company that focuses on locally made and packaged products. Reelfruit produces a variety of snacks that contain 100% dried fruits with no additives or preservation.
The company was founded by Affiong Williams with a believe that agriculture has huge untapped potential both in wealth and job creation.


Farm Pride
is a Nigerian fresh Fruit and Yoghurt beverage brand owned by Niyya Farm Group Limited (NFGL), a Nigerian Fruit and Yoghurt agro-processor based in Kaduna.
NFGL owns one of the largest fruit farms in Kaduna, occupying approximately 3,000 hectares growing Oranges, Mango, Guava, Passion Fruit and Pineapple, with the capacity to grow Grapes and Avocado
