Jimoh Ibrahim’s Group Asks Panel To Stop Hearing Jegede’s Appeal by kahal29: 8:14pm On Nov 15, 2016
The state executive committees of the Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West zone, have asked the Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led panel of the Court of Appeal in Abuja to stop hearing the appeals relating to the dispute over the party’s governorship ticket for the forthcoming November 26 election in Ondo State.

The pending appeals were filed by the Chairman of the rival faction of the PDP, Ahmed Makarfi, and its preferred governorship candidate in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, who was dropped by the Independent National Electoral Commission and replaced with Jimoh Ibrahim, who belongs to the Sheriff faction.
The Court of Appeal has fixed Wednesday for the hearing of the appeals.

But the Ibrahim’s group filed a motion before the Justice Saulawa-led appeal court panel asking it to stay further proceedings on the grounds that their appeal challenging the November 10, 2016 rulings of the court had been entered by the Supreme Court.

The group, led by Biyi Poroye, who is the Chairman of the Sheriff-led faction of the party in Ondo State also wrote separate letters to the Office of the Registrar of the Court of Appeal informing the court that its motions for stay of proceedings with respect to Makarfi and Jegede’s appeals were already pending before the Supreme Court.

The letters dated November 14 2016, was signed by a lawyer in the Poroye’s legal team, Josephine Ekperobe.

One of the letters read in part, “This is to inform you that the records of the appeal in respect of the above mentioned civil appeals compiled by the appellants have been transmitted to and received by the Supreme Court registry, Abuja and given appeal numbers as SC.953/2016 and SC.954/2016 respectively on November 11, 2016.
