rustlers have killed 6 in Kukoki community
– The gunmen reportedly stormed the
community and made away with about 700
cattle
The Kukoki community, Shiroro Local Government Area
(LGA) of Niger state has been attacked by some
suspected cattle rustlers.
About 700 cattle has been reportedly stolen by gunmen
who raided Kukoki community in Niger state.
Mark Jagaba, the council’s chairman, made the
disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on
Wednesday, November 16.
Jagaba told newsmen in Minna that the attack lasted
for about four hours.
He said that four Fulani’s and two Gbagyi’s were killed
while several women and children were injured.
He said that members of the community reported that
the suspects, numbering about 50 and armed with
dangerous weapons, stormed the community at about
7.00 a.m. shooting sporadically.
Mr. Jagaba said the cattle rustlers stole over 700
cattle and undisclosed number of goats and sheep
before fleeing the community.
He said the attack came barely three weeks after nine
people were killed in a similar incident in Kurebe and
Kwaki Chukuba wards of Shiroro Local Government
Area.
He said that normalcy had since returned to the area.
The chairman appealed to security agencies in the state
to assist a vigilante group in the area to curtail cattle
rustlers and indiscriminate killings of innocent lives.
Confirming the attack, Bala Elkana, the Police Public
Relations Officer, said that two suspects had been
arrested while efforts were on to apprehend the
others.
He said the command was yet to ascertain the actual
number of cattle rustled by the attackers.
He said that the police had beefed up security within the
community and its environs.
He said the police anti-cattle rustling team is searching
the forest through which the invaders escaped.
Meanwhile, suspected Fulani herdsmen have reportedly
sack four villages in Chawai Chiefdom of Kamaru Ward
in Kauru local government in Kaduna state, killing at
least 31 people.
Daily Trust reports that the attackers raided the
villages at about 5:00pm on November 13 torching
several houses and killing scores.
The source said the locals had information that the
villages were going to be attacked and they warned the
security agencies only for the gunmen to make good
their threat by attacking the villages Sunday evening.
The four villages that suffered from the attacks are
Ungwan Rimi, Kitakum, Ungwan Magaji and Kigam all in
Kauru LGA. In one of the villages only two houses
remained standing while the rest have been razed to
the ground, the source said . |
