‎‎Senator Kabiru Marafa moved for the approval of the Votes and Proceedings of Wednesday 16th November, 2016. Senator Omo Agege‎ seconded.‎

*PRESENTATION OF BILLS‎*

Three Bill passed first reading they are:

1.    Nigerian Tax Academy (Est., Etc.) Bill 2016 (SB. 330) by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (Niger North)

2.    ‎The Competition (Anti-Trust) Commission (Est., Etc.) Bill 2016 SB. 187 by Senato Isah Misau (Bauchi Central).‎

3.    ‎ ‎Pre-Shipment Inspection of Exports Acts (Amendment) Bill 2016 SB. 265 by Senator Joshua Dariye (Plateau Central)‎.

*PRESENTATION OF REPORTS* 

Senator Samuel Anyanwu lays the reports of five different petitions of the Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions ‎.

 ‎*CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS*

Two Bills passed third reading and ‎four confirmation reports were considered and passed they are:

1.    The Report of the Committee on Air force ‎ on the Air Force Institute of Technology (Est., Etc.) Bill 2016 (SB. 180).‎

Chairman of the Committee‎, Senator Duro Faseyi spoke on the needs, merit and benefits of the Airforce Institute of Technology.

Senate President commends Senator Faseyi for the work on the Bill. He adds that with the bill passed, Nigeria joins the ranks of ‎countries with Research and Development Institutes for their Aerospace and Aviation industries.

2.    ‎The Report of the Joint Poverty Alleviation Committee & National Planning Committee on the National Poverty Eradication Commission (Est., Etc.) Bill SB.23.

The Senators took turns to re-tool selected clauses of the National Poverty Eradication Commission.

Senate President appreciates all Senators for the work on the passage of the National Poverty Eradication Commission Bill adding that they are doing the right thing at the right time to attack poverty in this Country.

3.    ‎The Report of the Communications Committee on the confirmation of nominees into the Governing Board of the Nigeria Communications Commission.

Senator Gilbert Nnaji, Chairman of the Communications Committee said that the Committee does not recommend the confirmation of Pastor Ezekiel Yissa.  Senate however confirmed;

 Sen. Olabiyi Durojaiy,         Clement Baiye,

 Chief Okoi Obia        Sen. Ifeanyi Araume

 into the NCC Board

 Senate President reminds the new Board Members that Technology and Communication is now part of our GDP and charges them to move the sector forward.

4.    ‎ The Report of the Committee on Niger Delta on the confirmation of Mr. Igo Weli as Member of the NDDC Nigeria Governing Board. 

Senate confirms the nominations of Mr. Igo Weli. 

5.    The Report of the Committee on Judiciary on the screening of Hon. Justices Dauda Bage and  Paul Galinje into the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

 Senate confirms the nominations of Hon. Justices Dauda Bage and Paul Galinje into the Supreme Court. 

Senate President congratulates the two new Supreme Court Judges. He adds that 'the history of integrity and hard work that has brought them so far be sustained towards the growth of our democracy  

6.    The Report of the INEC Committee on the confirmation of INEC Nigeria Commissioners for Anambra, Delta, Gombe, Niger, Oyo and Zamfara States. They are;

Prof Obinna Ibeanu -Anambra,        May Agbamuche-Mbu –Delta,

 AVM Tijani Mu'Azu-Gombe, Mohammed Haruna-Niger,

Dr. Adekunle Ladipo Ogunmola -Oyo and Abubakar Ahmed Nahuche -Zamfara State.

Senate President congratulates the newly confirmed INEC Commissioners and charged them to improve the electoral process and sustain Nigeria's democracy. 

*ADJOURNMENT*

‎Senate Leader moved for other items on the Order Paper be stood down to another legislative day. The Minority Leader seconded. 

‎Senate President Bukola Saraki puts the question and Plenary is adjourned to Tuesday 22nd November 2016.
