Buhari, APC leaders urge Akeredolu urged to probe Mimiko

By Ayo Akinnola
The Presidency will encourage the All Progressives Congress, (APC) candidate, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu to probe the incumbent governor of Ondo State, Dr Rahman Olusegun Mimiko.
This will happen if Akeredolu emerges as the governor this coming weekend. The Ondo State gubernatorial election comes up next Saturday with the contest mainly between two giants, the APC and the newly reinvigorated Alliance for Democracy, (AD) whose candidate, Dr Olusola Oke has continued to make incursion into traditional APC and PDP stronghold.
Irohinoodua reliably gathered that after the APC rally held in Akure on Saturday, President Mohammadu Buhari and key APC leaders met and resolved to ensure that the past eight years of Governor Mimiko is put under scrutiny. The source however said President Buhari was dissapointed by the low turnout of locals at the Saturday rally which was billed to be the last of the APC mega rally ahead of the Saturday poll. The rally, apart from low turn out was also characterised by misgivings within the party as cash meant for Tshirts and mobilisation were said to have been withheld by Akeredolu.
A close aid of President Buhari told Irohinoodua that “The President made us to understand that his administration has no sacred cows. He told us that the first assignment of Akeredolu is to probe Governor Mimiko if he eventually wins the November 26 gubernatorial election.”
The source who does not wish to be named claimed that with the salary areas in the range of six months, there was no way the APC would not probe Mimiko in order to retrieve “stolen funds.”
The source said further “The APC is already collecting information on the amount being owed by the Ondo State government. We have met with some top civil servants. They have given us some important documents. We are gathering the relevant information for us to nail Mimiko and his gang.”
The source said the core-North is unhappy with Mimiko and the role he played in the last years of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The source listed Mimiko’s offences as:
• Mimiko was accused of leading a campaign to weaken the North through the deliberate kid-glove approach to the handling of Boko Haram insurgents.
• That he was involved in a Southern Nigeria ‘Intelligence Community” which specialized in selling rogue intelligence information to the security and the international community in order to demonise the core North.
• That he funded elections in all the South West states against President Buhari.
• That he was the custodian of the raw cash spent during the Presidential election by the PDP in order to ensure that Buhari did not win the election.
• That he contributed raw cash to the mind-boggling TV and radio anti-Buhari campaign
Meanwhile, APC chieftain, Mr Segun Abraham has said that he had asked his supporters to vote according to their conscience. Many have interpreted this to mean that Mr Abraham and other to APC aspirants are set to mobilize against Akeredolu. Abraham said “We pray the state will have an opportunity to elect good leadership that will resolve its economic problems and transform the state. We need transformation in Ondo State.”
