Salaam alaykum...

We will once again depend on shaykh ibn Abdulwahhab writing:


Shaykhul Islam says;

Know! – may Allaah have mercy on you – that it is waajib(compulsory) upon every muslim man and woman to learn these three things and act upon them.

Then he says;

If it is said to you "what is the usooluth thalatha", which knowledge('ilm) is the Paramount thing, it leads to knowing (ma'rifah) Allaah, knowing his prophet and knowing the deen based upon evidence.

(Then say:-)

1.) Acting upon the knowledge.

2.) Calling people to it.

3.) Having patience due to difficulties faced while calling to it.

The evidence is the statement of Allaah;

"By time, indeed, mankind is in loss,Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience."(surah al-asr).

(Imam) Al-Shafi'ee(May Allaah have mercy on him) said: "Had Allaah not send down any hujjah(established proof) other than this surah(al-asr) on his creation, it would've sufficed him."

And (Imam) Al-bukhaari(may Allaah have mercy on him) said(in): " "chapter of knowledge precedes words and action" that "and the evidence is the statement of Allaah"

"So know!(oh Muhammad) That there is no deity except Allaah and seek forgiveness for your sins"

So he started with knowledge(because Allaah told him اعلم) before words and action."


Now as we can see, before anything at all, you have to know, after youve known then act on it so it becomes part and parcel of you, after you act on it, then you can call to it which will require alot of patience due to the difficulty that you will face.

The tableegis erred in this, they call people without knowledge, this is a misplaced prioty, the first thing is to know, then acting on it, then calling to it with patience, don't become an overnight mufti, refer to the scholars before replying to a question, and if you don't know, say you don't know, saying WAllaahu a'lam is half of knowledge.

I pray Allaah makes this beneficial to us.

Gnosis. It is used to describe mystical intuitive knowledge of spiritual truth reached through ecstatic (haqiqa) experiences, rather than revealed or rationally acquired.

I asked an udhtaaz at his halqah this evening, and he said, its simply to know Allaah, hence i can say, "ilm, which is to know Allaah in the process know his messenger and his deen based upon evidences".

The texts are sufficient, it's our understanding of the texts that vary, and that's the reason for the variation in our knowledge of Allah.

Secondly, any gnosis or inspiration that contradicts the texts is out rightly from a misguidance from shaitan
