The M. A. Abubakar Network for Human Development today awarded 300 indigenes of the state, scholarships to pursue their NCE degrees. The Group made up of friends and associates of Governor Abubakar, said they got together to assist government in improving the state. They noted that Gov. Abubakar is passionate about human capital development with a focus on education, hence the decision to sponsor candidates who want to embrace the noble profession.

The event which held at Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi saw several young people receive their scholarship certificates. Moderating the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media put the estimate of the total scholarship costs at 21.6 million naira. It was also noted that the scheme will run annually.

Speaking at the event, the Director of the M. A. Abubakar Network for Human Development, Bala Mato Zungur urged beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the state. He urged them to study hard and justify the investment made on them by contributing to the good of society. He also said beneficiaries were drawn from all parts of the state.

Responding Gov. Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Arch. Abdu Sule Katagum, said that his administration is paying special attention to the teaching profession and renovation of schools. He added that this is just one of the various intervention programmes in the state to stem the rot in the Education sector. Furthermore, he commended the M. A. Abubakar Network for Human Development for coming to assist Government in uplifting the state especially in a time of recession, he also urged other eminent sons and daughters of Bauchi to emulate the group. Finally, he urged the students to take advantage of this opportunity to study hard for the benefit of society.

Opportunity was also given to parents and beneficiaries of the first phase of the scholarship to express themselves. Speaking on behalf of the parents, Malam Alkasim appreciated the government, and the network for the kind gesture. He said the governor has good friends and associates who are willing to contribute their quota to uplift the state. He expressed joy for the scheme and urged the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity well. The beneficiaries who spoke also expressed gratitude and promised to study hard and contribute to building a great society for Bauchi, and the world.
