Police quiz, clear Uba over kidnap of Pa Soludo

The police have cleared Chief Chris Uba of any complicity in the kidnap of Pa Simeon Soludo, father of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Professor Chukwuma Soludo. The Anambra State Commissioner of Police Philemon Leha had shortly after interrogating Uba yesterday in Awka denied ever indicting him, blaming the media for allegedly misquoting him, just as he said Uba might be invited if there was fresh lead showing his involvement.
Uba who arrived the police command at 2.45 pm yesterday was accompanied by hundreds of party supporters, stalwarts and gubernatorial aspirants including Dr (Mrs) Caro Nwosu, Chief Chuma Nwofor, Chief Basil Iwuoba, Prince Osita Ezenwa, Dr. Emeka Eze, Princess Kate Egwu, , Dr. (Mrs) Nkoli Imo and Chief Val Ozigbo.

Uba who spoke to newsmen denied involvement in the kidnap of Pa Soludo, stressing that he could not be intimidated in his quest to ensure that the process that threw up Soludo was quashed, adding that the imposition should stop.

According to him, the PDP has no candidate yet, calling on the national leadership of the party to take steps to conduct a transparent congress and primary for the election of the party’s gubernatorial candidate. The gubernatorial aspirants who called themselves the Integrity Group corroborated him in a press statement read by Dr. (Mrs.) Nwosu, condemning the invitation of Uba by the police over the Pa Soludo saga, though the statement noted that the meeting was cordial.

While saying that the quest of the gubernatorial candidates was in line with the belief of President Musa Yar’adua in the rule of law, she stated that the democratic process was undergoing unprecedented challenges in Anambra State which the outcome may determine the processes of 2010 election. Nwosu further stated that it took the courage of one man and majority of the gubernatorial candidates in Anambra State to jump-start the freedom movement.

‘We are all defending the constitutional, human, fundamental and civil rights of Nigerians. It is not about Soludo or Uba. It is about democracy, due process and rule of law. Anambra people are peaceful”, they said.
