Ray Answers: Where does it say to kill the child for the crime of the father? It says he doesn't leave the guilty unpunished. Only those who are guilty get punished by God. Read it again: "Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation." The use of "children" is speaking of the offspring (adults) who also have children (the nation of Israel is often called "The children of Israel" ). Also "the children and their children" is obviously referring to those who bear children. Little children don't have children.

Some pagan religions worship the sun, and even evolutionary theory credits the sun for the creation of life. Ray Answers: Some skeptics see the word "knowledge" in Gen. 3:5 (in ref. to the T=tree of the knowledge of good and evil) and conclude that God wants to prohibit man from having knowledge. They claim God likes people to be ignorant and unthinking, but they fail to consider what it is a knowledge of. But their sin brought evil into the world, and once mankind knew both good and evil, he had to choose between the two.

Before sin was in the world, Adam and Eve knew, and experienced, only good; in fact, God's entire creation was "very good." These same skeptics often complain about the evil they see in the world and blame it on God—yet it was because of Adam and Eve's desire to know good and evil that we now know and experience evil.

Ray Answers: We know the Ark must have been at least 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Using a longer cubit, it would have been over 500 feet in length. In the Western world, wooden sailing ships never got much longer than about 330 feet, yet much earlier the ancient Greeks were building vessels at least this size. China built huge wooden ships in the 1400s that may have been as large as the Ark. The biblical Ark is one of the largest wooden ships of all time, a mid-sized cargo ship even by today's standards.

The Ark had three decks (see Gen. 6:16), so this gives you an idea of its overall size. With a capacity of 1.5 million cubic feet, it would have had sufficient room for all the people, animals (kinds), and supplies.

I was serious with the "steak" reply (my apologies; it's easy to forget that some of you don't read, believe, or know the Bible). The inference made by the atheist questioner--that there would have been nothing to eat after the flood, isn't true. God told Noah "Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal" (Genesis 7:2). Clean animals were those that could be eaten. Noah had a small herd of cattle on board, so he had a good meat supply (steak). Also, the Bible says that vegetation had started to grow by the time he exited the ark, so he could have had meat and fresh vegetables if he was out of food—which I doubt. His on-board chickens, ducks and other birds would have supplied him with eggs, and his cows gave him a good source of milk, butter, and cheese.

Of course, none of these thoughts will help because you will have a million and one other objections when it comes to the flood. To try and convince anyone that Noah built an Ark is to put the cart before the horse. You should first repent, trust alone in Jesus for your salvation. If you do that you have God's promise that He will make Himself known to you (see John 14:21). That will solve your whole DUH (“Don't Understand How”) problem, because with God, nothing is impossible.

The Bible is filled with "typologies"—leprosy is a "type" of sin, Joseph is a type of Christ, the wilderness of the Hebrew desert is a type of the wilderness of this barren world, etc. Without this understanding, the entire Bible will seem to be a jumbled mess of confusion.

Egypt is a type of this sin-filled world, where sinners are slaves to their sins. God brought the Christian out of this world and freed us from slavery to sin and death.

Your conclusion is, therefore, wrong also. The moral Law isn't just for the Jews. It was given to the whole world so that we would have knowledge of what sin is (see Romans 3:19-20), and it will be the standard by which God will judge the world.

Ray Answers: Christopher Hitchens left one out. It is the fact that God is morally perfect, and when He punishes those who are evil it will include liars, thieves, adulterers, (He considers lust to be adultery), blasphemers, fornicators, etc. That leaves us all guilty, heading for Hell.

But He lets these and other evils continue because He is rich in mercy, and is patiently waiting for people to repent and trust the Saviour. Evil though we are, He doesn't want us to end up in Hell. How kind is that! There's just one of a thousand reasons to call Him God…something Christopher Hitchens now knows.

If I have a car and say "I lack belief in makers," it means I believe that cars have no makers—and my car, therefore, had no maker. It means that I believe that nothing made it. So, carefully worded though your modern definition may be, it still leaves you believing the scientifically impossible—that nothing made everything.

Morality is legislated already. It's already against the law to murder someone. That is rooted in God's moral Law—"You shall not murder." It's against the law to lie in court or to steal. Other laws against rape, etc., are rooted in the greatest of all the Commandments—to love God and to "love your neighbour as yourself." These moral laws are there to protect society. There are even laws on the books of American history where adultery, fornication, homosexuality, blasphemy, and of course, the killing of a baby in the womb were against the law.

Legislative laws should be the agenda of the government, and the government should be morally influenced by the Church. However, if you read the blue-print of the Church (The Book of Acts), their agenda wasn't to change the world through legislation. It was to proclaim the glorious gospel that grants everlasting life to dying sinners and instantly causes a man and a woman to desire above all things to do that which is right in the eyes of God.
