Oyi had some children, but wanted
more.
God told her that the particular child that He
would give her would be different. When it was
time for her to give birth, she gave birth to a
child with peeled skin different in colour from
her other children.
So when people asked about mother and the
baby, others would say: ‘Oyi bi omo ti gbogbo
ara re bo’ (Oyi gave birth to a baby which has
peeled skin).
This is why we call them Oyibo till tomorrow.
“They were born by Orisa nla. The white man
has been searching for his root of existence,
but in truth, he emerged from the Yoruba race.
“After the birth, they were rubbed with raw
eggs because the weather here did not match
them.
“It was Olokun who took them to what is now
known as temperate region. Then they started
to multiply.
“Over time, they came back to colonise us and
cause confusion among us. They started with
the kings causing quarrels among them.
“We started democracy. The white man met us
practising democracy.
“But they now claim that when they came here,
the black man was naked, not wearing clothes.
It is a lie! Oodua (Oduduwa) was the first to put
on clothes.
“With that opportunity, they began to exploit us.
“The white man turned us to slaves. But if you
look at the world today, you would see that the
Yoruba tradition exists.
“If you go to North America, it is our practice
that you would find there. If you go to the
Carribean Island, you will find Yoruba culture
and tradition. If you go to America, you will
realise they talk more of our religion and practices more than they talk about Christianity and Islam, the religions they brought to us. “You hear the Yoruba saying ‘Omoluabi’. This also has its own tale. It stands for Noah’s
child. Noah is in the Quran and Bible and God
used him to honour us.
“Noah was a Yoruba man when he was alive.
“You can also see how God honoured us with
Ogun, the god of iron. Motors, aeroplanes are
now made with iron. Ships are made with iron.
“Ogun gave birth to needle, cutlass, axe and
knife. It is with the needle that the world sew
their clothes
“So we all need to unite so that we can sustain
our existence.
Chai! My jaw dropped while reading this...LOL
As I was reading it, what was just coming to my mind was 'say God!'
