20 Facts about Pastor (Dr.) W.F Kumuyi_

Here are some things you may not know about this Man-of-God. He is really an outstanding preacher in all sense.

1. He was born on June 6, 1941 in Erin-Ijesha, Osun state.

2. He graduated with First-class degree in Mathematics from the University of Ibadan in 1967.

3. In April 2013, Kumuyi was named as one of the "500 most powerful people on the planet."

4. He draws/receives no salary from the work he does, instead the church sees to his upkeep. The house he lives-in and the SUV he drives is owned by the church. Some pastors under him drive Cars better than his. He has NOTHING he can call his.

5. His church holds the position as the "single largest congregational church" in Africa and the 3rd largest in the world since the 80's.

7. He is an extremely humble man, his understanding of the Bible is quite enviable and astonishing. He has an excellent command of alliteration. If he were to speak on TEAM, you would hear him saying: Together Everybody Accomplishes More (TEAM). His colossal grasp of the scripture has made the submission that "he teaches the bible as if he was there when it was written."

8. He doesn't own a private jet. (I could recall the story of an incident where the commercial plane he was in developed engine failure mid-air. One engine stopped working and the other was showing signs it would malfunction too. Everyone was praying and asking for God forgiveness of their sins, he was there calm and untroubled. He was quoted as saying: "satan you can't do anything while am still here (on the plane)." Suddenly, the two engines started working again and the crash was averted, according to one of the pastors that went with him on the journey).

9. He sold his car to support the gospel work in Ghana back in the 80's or late 70's.

10. His church offered the first "free food, free accommodation, free transportation" for participants in Nigeria Christendom. Every other church follow suite.

11. The church he reluctantly started with 15 members in 1973 as Bible Study class has grown to over 1 million membership in Nigeria alone with millions others in the rest of the world.

12. He has featured in a christian movie titled "The Snare." The film has been in the making since 2010 and it features local and international renowned Christian artistes.

13. He is an Holiness preacher, an Author and a Televangelist.

14. His church has its own private high school dubbed "Deeper Life High School" (an highly advanced secondary school) in almost every state in Nigeria.

15. His church also has its own University called "Anchor University" in Abuja and Lagos (as proposed).

16. His Ultra modern Headquarters church in Lagos cost over N4 billion. The edifice is a masterpiece with underground car park and 2 lift elevators inside the church. All the windows in the church are remotedly or electronically opened and closed. Even the roofing sheet they used is the first of such in Africa (according to the architect in-charge).

17. His church blue and white coloured, long buses procured by the church are all customised, including all the satellite dishes the church branches use for transmission.

18. He once tendered his letter of resignation as the G.S. of the church during the controversy that trailed his son's wedding despite the fact that he is the founder of the ministry. (I salute his leadership style on this).

19. He was once a lecturer at the University of Lagos. His studies at University of Ibadan was sponsored by the renowned Atheist, Tai Solarin.

20. He got born-again on April 4, 1964.

I end this piece with what Pastor Kumuyi himself said in an interview with London-based New African Magazine in 2006 about his background, how the Deeper Life Bible Church came into being, and what the future holds for the entire ministry; "there are no theatrics in our Church, because from my background, I don't like anything that is turned into a show or drama. Some pastors like the drama rather than the results. I want the results rather than the drama.

TOPIC: LOVE AND SUBMISSION IN THE HOME

MEMORY VERSE: 1 PETER 3:5-6

TEXT: 1 PETER 3:1-7

After considering the Search the Scriptures today, there are some questions we need to ask. One, Why should there be love and submission in the home? Another question is, if we are going to build a strong, happy and loving home, a home that produces children that will be on top of their world, who are the people that will build such a home? A home where every member is fulfilled and happy that none could wish for a better one, who are the people and what are the elements that build such a home?

The Elements, Parts and Components Of A Happy Home
A. THE HEART (The Wife)
The heart is the home maker, she is the wife and must be in good condition to make the home a lovely place to live in. (I Peter 3:4) The Apostle gives the example of the family of Abraham and Sarah. The importance of the wife at home cannot be overemphasised. She must be placed centrally, just as the heart is the center of the body. Even if the different parts of the body are in good condition, if the heart is not in a good condition, the body will be in trouble. For all other organs to work properly, the heart must be sound. Hence, for the home to be what it ought to be, the wife must be sound.

The wife is the SEAT OF LOVE.
The heart pumps blood to the body. The wife provides love to the home. The wife pumps love to everyone in the family, the husband receive his portion, and the children theirs. If it happens that there is a stoppage of the love flowing from her to all, there will be problems in the family.

The heart is the SEAT OF FORGIVENESS.
Whenever she fails to forgive, the entire home will be affected.

The heart is the SEAT OF COMPASSION AND MERCY.

The seat SEAT OF CARE AND COOPERATION.
She gives every part what it ought to have.

The heart is the SEAT OF INTIMACY
The wife will create an enabling environment for the intimacy. She sees when the husband is not as he ought to be and does something about it.

Song Of Solomon 8:6. This is the heart, that is, the wife expressing her feelings to the heart of the husband. For love to flow in the family, the wife must be active. She has a passion that wants to be and do everything for every member of the family. (1 Peter 1:22) Her love is not superficial but real, genuine, transparent, and passionate. The heart is central and very important as we think of the wife.

The heart of the husband rests solely on the heart of the wife (Proverbs 31:10-12).
That means when the wife is as she ought to be, the heart of the husband will be at peace. She is always active, positive and practical. She will do her husband good all the days of her life. When the heart is sound, the head, getting enough supply of blood from the heart will be alright. The head will be correct.

B. THE HEAD (The Husband) Ephesians 5:23
The husband is the head of the home even as Christ is the head of the church. On the head we have the eyes, ears, and organs that coordinate and direct the body. For example, if someone is going on the road, if there is a vehicle coming on, it is the head that will send messages to the different parts of the body to avoid the danger.

The head directs the home, he is the head of the home. He thinks, directs, plans (when you have a thinking head, the you have a planning head) leads, and rules. The 'rule' here means to guide. (Genesis 3:16) It is not the ruling of a tyrant or oppressor but that of one who shows the way, a manager, a director, telling the family where they ought to go. (1 Corinthians 11:3-7) The wife is the glory of the man. The head of the man is Christ while the head of the wife is the husband.

Ephesians 5:25. The head gives instruction, enlightenment, wisdom, and provision so that the family will live comfortably. (vs 23) He that loves his wife loves himself. When the head loves the heart, the heart is excited and makes the heart give out blood which provides nourishment for the whole body. So, when the husband makes the wife happy, she will reciprocate, and give out more to the family members.

It is important that the husband must leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. He will not need to always run back to the father should any problem arise in his home. No divorce, separation, no turning back against each other. The wife must honour and respect the husband.

C. THE HANDS (The Couple)
Husbands and wife do not stay indoors everyday, all day, but must go out to work in order to make provision for the family. For the family to be happy, both hands must be put to work (Ephesians 4:28) The husband must labour to supply the needs of the wife and children.

Proverbs 14:1. A wise woman uses her hands to build her family. She will not stay in the house, always expecting the husband to bring the provision (ch 31:10,19) The wife must support her husband in providing for the family. The responsibility is not limited to the husband, he alone must not be the breadwinner.

Ecclesiastes 9:10. Both hands must not be idle. They must be resourceful imaginative and strategising. Do not see any work too menial to do as long as it will bring sustenance to the family (1 Thessalonians 4:11; 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12) No one must be idle, lazying around, but all must find work to do. As a husband, do not allow your wife and children to be begging for anything in the community.

Everyone in the family must manifest love: the husband, the wife and the children. (1 Corinthians 13:1-8) No other thing must take the place of love in the family. Spiritual activities: as a leader who can preach and teach the Bible effectively, reading the bible from cover to cover, prolonged fastings, activities in the church, philanthropy, etc. must be done in a way that there will still be time for each other. You must make out time to pay attention to your spouse.

There must be perseverance and forgiveness. Do not ever say, I cannot bear this any longer. There must be submission on the part of the wife, no matter what she has and is. Love will continue to prevail in our families. Amen. There are homes where anger is more pronounced than love. We must not allow this to happen in our homes. Love will not fail or cease in our families in Jesus name!

* Lord, make me the heart, head and hands I ought to be!
