Women Were Killed With Their Late Husbands.

Until the 19th century, a woman in India who lost her husband was expected to climb onto his funeral pyre and burn herself to death along with him.

Sometimes, during war, women would be expected to do this even before their husbands died.

If a siege was going poorly, all the women of the village would burn themselves alive and take their children with them.

The husbands would just watch as their families burned.

Then, in the morning, they would smear their wives’ ashes on their faces and go to war.

These women killed themselves just to give their husbands a little extra motivation.

During a Samoan wedding, the chief of the tribe would manually rupture the bride’s hymen with his fingersin front of a crowd to prove that she was pure.
Any woman who lost her virginity before marriage could be stoned to death.

This is just downright disgusting, I feel like puking all the boli I ate this evening out.

Can you kindly tell us how women are the cause of their own problems and what they could have done differently?

**NOTE** this may be a global phenomena but it is distinctively thriving in Africa

There are several fora and public initiatives that encourage women to come out of this age-old shell of gender stereotypes established by Religion, Traditional Social Societal Structures and primarily an Intellectual Eco-system that teaches biological and physiologic differences as evidence of Male Superiority. It is a deeply entrenched disease that ignores the fact that without these unfounded barriers mentioned above.. there is no telling who would be a better human male/female.

But it seems even if you find powerful, successful women at various levels in society.. there is very little drive from other women to embolden initiative, passion and courage to be better persons and thriving in circumstances where we are previously thought to be lacking in conviction.

Let us take caring for female children.. here is what typically obtains... while females with brothers break apart in their teen and pre-puberty years, the formative (early) years distinctly shows a higher level of maturity intellectually and socially on the part of females who are same age as their male siblings.. when they get past teenagers.. there are several stereotypical parental behaviors that start damaging the psyche and reasoning of females as they grow into adult-hood

1: Beauty over Intelligence: At a young age.. boys can be rough but girls have to preen and prune and look pretty. they get rewarded and complimented for simply being cute and they recognise that there is a quick reward to looking beautiful rather than intelligent.
2: Marriage as an ultimate goal over Independence and Career: When a boy grows into a man, his ambition and goals in life seem limitless.. for a woman you can only go as far as Marriage.. you can go further but the male society now sees it as usurping a God-mandated Male role. So women stave ambition and passion just to remain under the roof of her husband's house as he is the bread-winner. should he fail and she becomes the bread-winner, she is seen as proud and unsupportive
3: Submission rather than Cooperation and Collaboration: The Man is the head and the woman has to keep her gaze low and her head bowed. but they are proud to claim that behind every successful man lies a woman. All lip-service

We could go several pages on this issue but this is what women ought to do to change this unfortunate trend that has bedeviled AFRICA for centuries now

1: Parents should recognize that it only hurts the survival of future generations if stereotypes are nurtured and sustained. give equal importance to female and male children - Enlighten them in equal boundless measure.. success is not labelled by gender but by courage.

2: The institution of marriage is not a license for gender un-equality rather a message of hope for humanity .. Man+Woman inmarital harmony produces generations of successful children.. better 100% than 50% or less

My 2 cents

These women killed themselves just to give their husbands a little extra motivation, the final statement is not entirely correct. The women and Children did that so they won't became slaves and the men go to war to die in battle

Women are still suffering.

Before marriage family start pricing bride price on their head as if they are meat.

After marriage its time to throw away her fathers name and bear another mans name because unlike males, they are too inferior and unworthy to carry family name to the next generation.

During marriage her decision must always take back seat to the man's decisions regardless of whether the man even knows what he is doing or if he is a sadistic person that makes rules to inconvinience his wife.

Lets not even bring up issue of men encouraging adultery among themselves because they think they are naturally polygamous and because their wives are now too worn out and wrinkly to be sexy.

So the women burn themselves and children to give courage to their men and also to avoid slavery. The men after smearing their ashes like dustin powder then head to war, so what happened after they became victorious?

Do they come back to their empty village or do they go looking for death in the name of trying to conquer some other village?

Thank God for the 20th century
