Why Are We So Wicked And Sinful In Nigeria In Spite Of Our Deep Religiosity?
Religion is a cultural system of behaviors and practices, world views, sacred texts, holy places, ethics, and societal organisation that relate humanity to what an anthropologist has called "an order of existence". Different religions may or may not contain various elements, ranging from the "divine", "sacred things", "faith", a "supernatural being or supernatural beings" or "...some sort of ultimacy and transcendence that will provide norms and power for the rest of life.
Nigeria is now the most religious nation on earth. The richest pastor is also here, in spite of the fact that over 110 million Nigerians live on less than N300 par day.
I don’t need to mention how crazy we are, when it comes to religion, both Muslims and Christians.
Religious people in Nigeria are ready to do anything because of money.
We do things that God doesn’t like, simply because we want to augment our income, like tolerating exam malpractices. The so-called Unions collect monies they don’t work for, sometimes by force, and you’ll see them fasting, performing Hajj, and praying.
Pastors, bishops, imams, sheiks, etc., fall extremely short when measured by human standards (not to mention God’s standards), and yet they think God called them. They think they’ve his backing.
We use fake results, fake certificates, fake age, etc. We bastardize things. Nations who aren’t deeply religious anymore are even more righteous than us. I believe coming generations would be disillusioned with religion, and adopt the Western mindset.
The issue is: We’re also among the most corrupt nations in the world. Majority of us are deceptive, ungrateful, wicked, traitors, dishonest, callous, promiscuous, greedy, etc. Everything religious persons must not do are what we do, yet we go to church on Sundays, we go to mosques on Fridays.
Why are we so wicked and sinful in Nigeria in spite of our deep religiosity? We pray and pray, and contribute money for religion, but poverty increases? Is that of any use?

There can't be a more backward folks or society, than that which religious beliefs bears a dominant influence on their mentality.

The twin of lame religious beliefs is the rusty cultural beliefs.

The very god idea, that is conceptualized in religious beliefs, is the most retrogressive and psychogenic influence on humanity.
