Graduate set to launch Data Bank for Arabic and Islamic Studies in Nigeria

By AbdulGaniy Shehu

As efforts are geared towards the documentation and archival of data in the country, a graduate of Islamic Studies in the University of Ibadan is set to launch an Arabic and Islamic Studies (ARISS) data bank to preserve and digitize the resources in the two departments in Nigerian Universities.

The graduate, AKINLABI AbdulKabir Habeebullah while speaking on the aim of the proposed data bank said: “Its major aim is to collect academic data, research topics, scholars’ profiles and graduates’ information, and then preserve them on a central searchable database”

Furthermore he states that the databank will among other things avail to the public areas of research in Arabic and Islamic studies, create a platform where members of the Arabic and Islamic communities in Nigeria can interact, and publicise events that relate to the field of Arabic and Islamic studies in the country.

According to him, the databank which will be officially launched and take off from the University of Ibadan as projects cutting across the Bachelor of Arts, long essays, masters and PHD thesis are currently been compiled and will soon be uploaded on the databank.

He emphasised that since the 21st century requires that data should be preserved and easily accessed, then all stakeholders in these two fields should be able to get information from an up-to-date database. He urged the general public to access the platform via www.ariss.com.ng.

Students in Nigerian tertiary institutions who are willing to represent their various universities as data entry students and collectors can also do so too by sending their Curriculum Vitae to info@ariss.com.ng.
