Workers of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, have embarked on an indefinite strike since the institution’s management failed to meet their demands.

The aggrieved workers under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union and National Association of Academic Technologists after holding a Congress today 9th January finally agreed embarking on the indefinite strike.

Secretaries of SSANU, Babafunso Awe ; NASU , Ganiyu Afolabi and NAAT , Owoeye Adebayo, told newsmen in Ado Ekiti that the workers were demanding payment of balance of 2013 earned allowance to affected staff, remittance of pensions of workers and stoppage of Information and Communication Technology deductions from staff salaries as the service was erratic and inefficient.

The workers also demanded the immediate consideration and payment of all accrued allowances peculiar to the university’ s workers as being enjoyed in other universities.

They also demanded that workers who were due for promotion should be considered without further delay .

The unions , who stressed that they could no longer guarantee industrial harmony , called on the Vice Chancellor , Prof . Kayode Soremekun, to immediately meet their requests.
