Lautech Students Protest In Ibadan, From A To Z (monday, January 9, 2017) by mujybee(f): 7:29pm On Jan 10, 2017 |
Students of striking Ladoke
Akintola University of Technology,
Ogbomosho, Oyo State held
protest in Ibadan today to
challenge Oyo State Government
on the seven month old industrial
action embarked on by the
university workers. Ladoke
Akintola University of Technology,
Ogbomosho had shut down
academic activities since June,
2016 following several months of
unpaid allowances. Ladoke
Akintola University of Technology
is jointly owned by Osun state and
Oyo State. The protest was well
attended by students from various
universities in the country.
Oyo State Governor, Isiaka
Ajumobi, held a peaceful meeting
with the leaders of the protesting
students where he assured them of
quick action to restore academic
activities back on the
campus.Governor Ajumobi
promised the students that the
institution would be opened
before February, 2017.
The two owners of the institution,
Osun and Oyo state governments,
have agreed to commit #200
million each to settle the owed
allowance. The two governors,
therefore, promised to reopen the
school on or before February 1st,
2017.
ExtraNewsNow further gathered
that after the meeting, the
Governor gave the students leader
an entertainment allowance of
about #500,000 which later caused
disagreement between the student
leaders.The disagreement was
related to a diverse sharing
formula by the participating
students which caused the student
to engaged one another in free-
for-all at the front of the Office of
the Governor.
Meanwhile, some students of the
institution have condemned the
activity of the state governor of
Oyo State for given out such huge
sum of money while he is unable
to pay his state workers' salaries.
However, Mr Bolaji Azeez, Special
Assistant to Governor Ajumobi on
Youth and Students Affairs
defended his boss saying the action
was to display the 'Fatherly'
gesture of the governor which he
said portray Governor Ajumobi's as
a 'caring father'. |
