Ishola Michael, Bauchi - 26.11.2009

THE Action Congress (AC) has rec ommended that politicians, who are aspiring to become president of the country, must undergo medical tests to confirm their health status before assuming office.

This, it said, would prevent the situation the country currently faced over the health status of President Umaru Yar’Adua, who is currently in Saudi Arabia, receiving medical attention.

The chairman of the Bauchi State chapter of the party, Danladi Jaja, on Wednesday, made the recommendation, following reports that President Yar’Adua, on Monday, travelled to Saudi Arabia for treatment, again.

Jaja said in view of the anxiety created by the health of the president and his frequent trips for treatment abroad, any politician who failed the test should be disqualified and declared unfit to run for the office.

He lamented that it was only in a country like Nigeria that a president, who was not medically fit, could occupy such exalted office. “Since the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) knew that Yar’Adua was not fit to be president in the first place, they should not have allowed him to contest.

“We are just trying to show the world that we are different from other Africa countries. Most African countries are more reasonable, they know what is good and they go for it unlike in Nigeria,” he said.
