Ilorin—The Second Republic Senate Leader, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki, said yesterday in Ilorin that Governor Bukola Saraki will decide who succeeds him in 2011.

To this end, the former Senate Leader said he is still waiting for his son, Dr Bukola Saraki, the incumbent governor of Kwara State, to tell him who he intends to hand over his office to in 2011, stressing, “there is no hurry because there is a tradition in Kwara State.”

Elder Saraki, who spoke in an interview with journalists in Ilorin on the state of the nation, also chided the members of the National Assembly for embarking on the review of the 1999 Constitution, insisting that it was the duty of Nigerians to rewrite an acceptable constitution for the country.

On the successor to Governor Bukola Saraki, Senator Saraki explained that having spent 46 years sojourning in the politics of Kwara State as the political leader, he never knew that his own son would bring joy to him, otherwise he would have taken the decision long ago, while making others the governor in the state.

The political leader recalled with nostalgia how Alhaji Aliko Dangote, whom he described as a close friend to Governor Saraki, surprisingly came to him in 2003 to convince him to allow his friend become the governor of Kwara State.

“I never thought of it. All I know about Bukola is that he is a good business man. He looks everywhere for business and he is always with his calculator to know how much he would make as profit, so I never knew he would be a successful politician,” he added.
