The question is not his replacement, focus on the question. I agree he should resign to take care of himself.

Re: Sign This Petition Requesting Yar'adua Resign To Take Care Of His Health by toluxa1(m): 1:52pm On Nov 27, 2009
If he were to step down or die, he would be replaced by Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan, who is from the country's southern Niger Delta region.

But according to the ruling People's Democratic Party's own formula for sharing power among the country's regions, the president must be a northerner.

Yes, he should resign. How many Nigerians that are dying of the same ailment right now without opportunity of flying out of the country at the expense of our commonwealth?

Well said. A policeman in Ibadan reportedly lost 2 children this month alone due to poor medical care and went on rampage. . . . .our presido can however afford to hold all of us ransome & travel to saudi for 'medical check-up' every fortnight. . . We need a revolution. angry angry

The issue is not to resign or not. Other countries have sick president that are not forced out.
Firstly, What is the constitutional position?
lets follow the law

I am not expecting any miracle b4 2011 or interested in power shift b4 2011, but life is precious & more important than position or power. For d sake of his health, he should resign.

We quote the law when we shouldn't. Resignation is a PERSONAL/MORAL decision,it has nothing to do with the constitution. Does he(Umaru) in his heart of hearts believe he is giving Nigerians the leadership they deserve? A country lagging far behind its peers, still has to grapple with an indisposed president.

Really sad indeed.

Common decency as well as the constitution say he should resign or fly every terminally ill nigerian abroad for treatment.

As much as we all wish with all our hearts that Mr. Presidents lives long but does he really want to? Is this how powerfully influencing power can be? Even when one's life is at stake? Mr. President step aside and manage your life no matter how short it remains. We love you and you have tried!

Well said. but unfortunately, political office in Nigeria is less about service & more about being an overlord. cry cry
