Yeah, I did and the ideas were plain ridiculous and revolting.

Bad things happen to everybody regardless of you being a good person or a bad person. It is a matter of luck. What did blind bartimaeus do for him to be born blind, huh?

I have taken time to observe and read your comments and I have come to the conclusion that, you're a frustrated person, the invisible taskmasters of Nigeria's recession must reside with you angry ..... Probably because you've read a few literature books doesn't guarantee you qualify to hold an opinion on matters regarding the bible. There are two sides to everything, if the parents of those unfortunate disrespectful children had leashed their kids with Godly morals they wouldn't have mocked a "MAN OF GOD" which led to their destruction, this is one out of many lessons in that story, just as you mock God, calling him a brute.......same did those kids to a man of God, and you know the rest of the story, most people begging for UNITY are the most SLIMY and unstable in their ways, very UNSURE of the part they have chosen, if you were such an educated person, you ought to know that with the provisions of the constitution that allows Freedom of religion, speech, choice et cetera it's expected that people would hold different belief system and opinions, even culture and way of life in a designated environment; would you give people freedom and not expect them to use it? To defer in perspective?? If you believe in NOTHING, I have no problem with that, you would live and die, and i won't oppress you, but if it offends you that I believe in SOMETHING or SOMEONE, then you're insecure......you need help!......have you read about the indigo children Most of those kids possess unnatural abilities that refutes the laws of physics and chemistry, do you mind explaining, since you're a master of REASON and LUCK At least you believe in LUCK, is that quantifiable Is it mathematically verifiable that someone has LUCK before something Good actually happens to them? Do you see how confused you are now? Like my friend would say, life isn't only black and white, there are shades of grey! But your case is so especial, you're blind to both the former. Mind you, BLIND bartimeaus was born BLIND so Jesus could meet him in his time, and HEAL him, "we are nothing but pencils in the hands of the creator" Gracious007, if you were a god, you would be the most petty, greedy and wicked god to ever have a name and you would be so miserable you would have neither worshippers nor servants.

It's difficult to limit to just 5 ........unless we know what you are looking for. - entertainment, education?

1. Shogun, james clavell
- I think that all Nigerians should read this book to make them more cynical about religion, which a consider the root of most of our problems. The pirates carried missionaries on board to Convert the "unknown" savages to adopt a culture they could predict, and subsequently defeat in a war. It created division amongst the Japanese in the least, which served the Portuguese well, in their selfish quest.

2. The fountainhead, Ayn Rand
- it would enlighten you about the "virtue of selfishness". That the integrity of man should not be compromised. It's a perspective everyone should explore. It will give a fresh lease on life.

3. Moby Dick, Herman Melville
- it will remind you that not every endeavor in life is worth pursuing. Some obsessions consume you and become your downfall.

4. The Prince, Niccolo Machiavelli
- a manifesto on leadership from experiences made through history up until the time of Lorenzo "the magnificent" de Medici.

5. Atlas shrugged, Ayn Rand
- a book that will show you the mettle of sustainable relationships. All kinds of bonds must be based on symbiosis - trade, personal, diplomatic, whatever. If you can't see the other person's gain, it's bound to fail. There is no such thing as selfless service. Progress has to exploit the self-interests of individuals.

You know, it has come to my notice that christians such as yourself are the most wicked, brutal, heartless, cold-hearted, hypocritical, unempathetic entities ever, and if there are other people that surpass you guys in this regard, well, I am yet to to find them. Christians just pretend on the outside to be sane, loving responsible folks but are nonetheless wicked souls hiding beneath the comfortable cloak of religion. You are saying those kids wouldn't have mocked the prophet of god if their parents had taught them ethics, but you also forgot to note that we as humans are vulnerable to a moment of weakness. The most responsible of men have done bad things at one point in their life, and they weren't crucified because of that. Tell, are you a saint yourself? When you were a kid, didn't you err against your parents, teachers or elders? And were you murdered for doing those things? Apparently not. Such was the case of the little children who were just having fun. Innocent kids who were having a little fun, but the so-called prophet of yahweh who should have known better as he was no saint either, took the matter so seriously. Wasn't there any better way to show his disapproval other than killing? Doesn't same bible instruct parents to use the rod whenever their kids fall out of line? I wouldn't be stunned to find that you support jungle justice. Wicked soul!!!

I am not preventing anyone from airing their views. I simply asked the character I quoted to state the benefit of reading the bible and he/she couldn't give any concrete point. People are diverse so everyone is free to hold their own opinion, but when that opinion is detrimental to society, then something needs be done about that opinion. If our world isn't one of luck and chance , oga please can you tell us why stray bullets hit innocent people or why bad things always happen to kind people, and the real bad people out there thrive and live in prosperity? So yahweh is so bored out of the world that he afflicts man with terrible things just so he could show his power? Did he consider the fact that blind bartimaeus was in pains and didn't want a part in god's sadistic game? This just confirms one thing - your bored god is scared and insecure and because of that, he needs to constantly use brute force to coerce people to obey him, people who would otherwise ignore his lonely ass, as he craves love like a neglected hag no man wanna have for keeps.

My 5 books will be:

1: From third world to first world - Lee Kuan Yew (How to make your country great)
2: The state of Africa - Martin Meredith (How to single handedly ruin your country till thy kingdom come)
3: The rise and fall of the third reich - William L. Shirer (A history of Nazi Germany and how not to fall to ideology)
4: Things fall apart - Chinua Achebe (How it is inevitable for societies that refuse change to collapse in presence of superior people)
5: The book of Nehemiah - Nehemiah (How one determined fellow can galvanize a hopeless people to great acheivements)

Now many have selected "The 48 Laws". I consider the book a hogwash and I am not alone. You can do a quick internet check on that. Greene is a good author but a misleading observer. If you follow the 48 laws, you may or may not make it to greatness in life but you will certainly become a selfish and cold hearted character who is nothing more than a schemer who no one should draw close to.
The best post here.

Why bash God like that? If you love man, more than God, why haven't you sacrificed yourself yet?? I would rather believe in a God, that cares so much about his creatures to the extent of giving his only son to die for men, than hear a Selfish, hypocritical, self deluded, self-contradicting, dyslexic slowpoke rant about his care for humanity through social media.... TALK IS CHEAP, and with the current market value of naira yours is CHEAPER... You say God is bored and yet he doesn't have time to respond to you misearable on Nairaland?? You say "NO ONE is a SAINT" yet you believe there are wicked people who actually DESERVE punishment, REAL BAD people What about FAKE BAD people? Do you read your comments at all?? God is better than YOU, he has no respect for persons. And bad things doesn't ALWAYS happen to good people, you cannot prove this? So don't say it. AND if Jesus says he's not worthy to be considered GOOD except God, then I think your standard of good is very much lower than that of God. I said it, if you were a god you would probably compete with Satan. You're greedy, selfish, and very much SLIMY, a manipulative pretender. Try to feed yourself first and leave God alone. And I don't support jungle justice, that's even a stupid thing to imagine.

Dumbest comment ever.
Your arguments are poor. Stop embarrassing yourself and quit pushing your shortcomings on me. This is an online debate, not a war of words. Counter my assertions with good points, or forever hold thy peace if you have got none, and also you don't have to be a biitch about it.
You haven't said nothing to counter any of the points I raised thus far except ranting and raving like a mannerless tout devoid of home training cos someone who hails from a responsible home and claims to be christ-like would not be constituting nuisance on cyberspace.

REAL BAD people. Real was used in context to show emphasis if you are not just being strongheaded, myopic and blowing issues outta proportion just to suit your religious campaign founded on hypocrisy. I should prove to you that bad things happen to good folks? Really? Please move ahead. I would rather engage a numbskull than argue with you. grin grin for the fact that you went on to explain "REAL BAD people" just reveals how much education your parents were able to afford grin shocked drat!!!! You're insensitive. If you say no ONE is SAINT, don't you think you indirectly imply "no one deserve punishment" do I need to spell it out for you? 48 kids gathered to mock one man, not one kid, not two kids, not three kids, "48" ? And you think their families aren't aware or no adult saw them, and you think they don't deserve to die especially for the fact NO ONE is a SAINT, then why do you think there are REAL bad people who actually deserve to DIE?? Do I need to help you figure this? Since one is justified or guilty on the basis of sainthood, it implies NO one deserves to die regardless of what they have done, because the punishment won't be carried out by a SAINT judge or a SAINTpolice orderly, neither are the witnesses at the court room SAINT themselves..... That's the simple LOGIC in your statement when you said the prophet wasn't a SAINT himself, I hope your brain can bear this embarassed I bet if God weren't a saint himself you would also say he doesn't have the moral right to punish anybody. Well, I prefer a God who gave a commandment, and since leadership is by example, he came down in form of MAN, eating and drinking and living a Godly life among sinners, even visiting them, to prove a point, that he can himself obey his commandments in a sinful world, that he isn't just imposing it on us. Not an empty TALKER like you, with no RECORD whatsoever, a faceless nobody, everything you say henceforth ought to be dismissed as irrelevant and arrant horse-shit. You condemn Christ and God, yet you wish to find Christ in me, the very person you say is detrimental to society cheesy ahahaha how ridiculous...... You have used many pejorative and highly belittling terminology to describe God YET you feel you're innocent and don't deserve the name calling undecided ? What version of brain are you using, is your brain an obsolete application software? because i'm trying to figure out why you're intellectually lazy and slow, you don't read deeper meaning to statements, you make thesis, abandon them, and make new ones in the next comment, you don't see other side to things, you're just a weakling afraid to take responsibility for his actions, seeking for a God to bear all his burdens even when he break rules........every name I called you is based on discovery, I wasn't just trying to intimidate you. Obviously your argument lacks sufficient rectitude, NOT mine, you haven't made any point I haven't sufficiently proven stupid, if you fail to see that, it could be as a result of your narrow-mindedness......you being a parochialist. When you say something, try to remember them .......at least. And when you read my comment, understand they are nestedly related, each one shedding more light on the previously stated. For example, in this comment, I was able to expose how slimy you are, how dumb you are, your inability to see beyond your nose, and your ALMIGHTY Hypocrisy, if you don't see any true statement suggesting lack of harmony in your reasoning to support each inclusive discovery, then this is where I have to say REAL goodbye grin grin grin cool

Saw the notification for a new post on this thread thinking it would be about good books to read but to my utter shock, it's some fucking cvnt sociopath attempting to rationalize the mauling of 48 kids.

You're a fucking idiot.

I'm sure many Christians would (secretly) disapprove of that story based on their personal moral convictions.

Ben Carson is a liar. They have investigated the stories he made in that book and a lot of them never happened. Even his classmates denied him.

I wouldn't disapprove of that story, as it's very easy to imagine what it's like to take the position of those kids, afterall everyone was a kid, but not every one of us were as abusive as those kids especially to a man of God, that is if some were abusive at all.....BUT you see, if you were reborn 10 times to relive your life here on earth, you can NEVER imagine what it's like to be ELISHA, you can never know what it's like to be in his shoes, because your lazy ass can't serve God, even if you did, you won't be as COMMITTED as ELISHA, you would only be useful if serving God had to do with sexual promiscuity, clubbing and getting drunk. You can never relate with ELISHA'S REALITY, being a prophet or pastor is different from being a church going carnal christian. Plus the fact he just lost Elijah, someone whom he had been with since his life, abandoned his everything to follow, is all of a sudden, taken from him, then some "48" kids gathered to mock him, how old are those kids by the way? It's highly probable the mockery has been a continuous practice, before they met judgement, for I don't see how 48 kids would gather to mock one man only once. And how did they manage to gather to mock one MAN?. It's people like you who appear overly empathetic on social platforms that commit the WORST crimes in any environment they find themselves, people who ACT as if they have the interest of everyone at heart and can't hurt a fly are usually the most selfish and dubious, I won't be surprised if your hands were already stained with blood, or if you're not into some shady dealings. Even if God came down from heaven and killed those children himself, I won't see him less loving than he has proven to be...YES!.. Afterall he has power to undo and he's all knowing, and have access to more knowledge than i do, so my judgment would be inferior and inadequate than his own judgement in EVERY case, plus if I recognize life is given by God, why should I question his judgment? He could give life back if he wants to.. To hell with you and whatever you have to say plus every Numbskull that supports you. I have not READ from an UNBELIEVER or people like you for once, where you insult God for SACRIFICING his ONLY SON for your sinful ass, a punishment you ought to bear, if you were such a kind hearted person, you ought to ADVISE God against giving up his INNOCENT SON..... cool Since you feel you know as much as he does and can CONDEMN him on the mauling of your SINFUL unrepentant KIDS, don't you think you ought to say "it's a wrong move for God to allow his INNOCENT only Son to die for you, since you know you would Still go back to Sin again? grin " don't you think you should be asking God "Why did you let that happen?" And find that more barbaric that an innocent person who was and is God, was permitted to go and die by hanging on a tree, than the death of some guilty mortals Scums of society. cool

His works nevertheless borrows ideas that dates far back in the parrochial days of Abraham.
