This happened early December last year. I felt I should share.

Two teenage girls were streaming themselves on Facebook Live as they drove down a Pennsylvania highway just before being killed in a fiery car crash.

According to reports, 18-year-old Brooke Hughes (left in the 1st picture) was broadcasting a live video on Facebook while driving very slowly in the right lane on Interstate 380 around midnight on the fateful day. In the video, 19-year-old passenger Chaniya Morrison-Toomey (right in the 1st picture) can be heard asking, "Are you going live?"
Chaniya Morrison-Toomey, the passenger who posed the question, was referring to Facebook Live, which Hughes had just launched to broadcast live from her moving vehicle, according to the Scranton Times-Tribune.The final moments of their young lives - marked by a flash of lights, screeching tires and then seven minutes of blackness - were captured on the live-streamed video after Hughes, sitting behind the wheel, held her phone near her face for the rest of the world to see.

Hughes, 18, and Morrison-Toomey, 19, were declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck that killed them was uninjured, according to the Associated Press.

Video of the incident, which began so innocuously, was posted on Hughes’ Facebook page, where it has been watched more than 7,000 times, according to the Times-Tribune.

Facebook Live launched in 2015 and allows users to stream live video to their Facebook pages, where others can watch in real time, or after the fact. The service is used in a variety of capacities, from broadcasting breaking news, protests and events to giving lectures or communicating with friends.

Chris Cox, Facebook’s chief product officer, told CBS News in April that Facebook Live allows users to bring “a little TV studio” to their pockets.
But before Hughes had a chance to reply, lights flashed inside the car followed by the sound of screeching tires — then blackness.

The impact from the crash sent the sedan hurling into the guardrail before it tumbled onto the road and burst into flames.

Both women were burned beyond recognition, and were declared dead at the scene after being extracted from the contorted, charred vehicle (second pictured below)

Michael Parks, the driver of the truck, was uninjured and has not been charged with any crime from the fatal collision. Witnesses told police there may have been something wrong with Hughes' tail lights.

The video documenting the crash has been removed from Hughes' Facebook page, but state officials say they plan to use the footage in their investigation.

17-year-old Samantha Piasecki, who was friends with both victims, told local press she had been in the car with them earlier that evening but was dropped off hours earlier at her mother's Scranton home.
Piasecki said watching the video later that night "broke" her, and caused her to wonder whether she could have done something to prevent the devastating accident. She said of her friends:
"They were both down-to-Earth people. They had good personalities. They had smiles that could light up dark rooms. Anytime you were with them it was always fun."
Morrison-Toomey worked at a local KFC restaurant, while Hughes was a student at West Scranton High School.
Our hearts go out to the victim's families at this tragic time, and we hope everyone stays safe on the roads this winter.

How far can people go with social networking?

This is what happens when people are so engrossed in social media. Lots of youths now wrap themselves around this and become totally oblivious to the real world.

Social media has its positives , but the negatives can leave you weak in the knees sometimes.

Hope others learn.
